I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. Another film I've watched more than a few times this summer, catching it repeating on tv a few times when I've been bored and have enjoyed each time is Practical Magic. Not really a film I would've ever thought to bother with before; I watched it once because there wasn't much else on and enjoyed it and have since found myself re-watching it a few more times.
Hayao Miyazaki's movies (along the lines of Howl's Moving Castle) have been re-mastered with American actors by Disney. he is an animation master. i love them all.
i go back and forth between edgy and heartwarming. Princess Bride and so many other that have been mentioned.
40's film noir - Casablanca, African Queen, The Big Sleep, and Spencer/Tracy Movies are good. Breakfast at Tiffany's with Hepburn....
