The Tale of Two Young Men Named Josh

I put this on a separate thread so nobody would miss it.
I will entitle this post "The Tale of the Two Young Men Named Josh," and it just exemplifies how politics play such a prominent role in our criminal justice system and how incredibly broken the justice system is.
Two men, with similar circumstances, face very different penalties simply because of their connections with people in high places.
There is a young man in Texas named Josh Graven, who committed a minor sex offense when he was 12 years old. He had sexual contact with his eight year old sister.
Now, 25 years old, he is a staunch advocate for reform of our criminal justice system, particularly of the sex offender registry.
He has become a model citizen even appearing on the cover of the Texas Observer, a political advocacy magazine, in 2012. He has a wife and children. Here is a link to a picture of him and his wonderful family.

Now they are trying to arrest him and give him a possible 25 years to life for failure to register in the state of Texas. It was a technical violation.

But there is another Josh in this story, Josh Duggar. Now everyone knows that in my work, I never judge anyone's crime, so I have no plans to start now.
But the disconnect between the two Joshes here is difficult to understand with even the least amount of common sense.
See, Josh from Texas did not rub elbows with important political figures as Josh from Arkansas did. Josh Duggar was often seen with Mike Huckabee over the years.
Mr. Huckabee has even given his full support for the Josh from Arkansas. He says he should be forgiven.

Why is the same kind sentiment not reserved for our friend, the Josh in Texas?
This entire case of insanity would not be complete without the proverbial icing on the cake. On Thursday, the Arkansas authorities were ordered to destroy all the police records of Josh Duggar.

It is as if nothing happened those years ago in Arkansas.
One young man's police records are destroyed while the other man is looking at having his life and family destroyed with a possible 25 year to life prison sentence.
And we call ourselves a Christian nation!!!
We have the temerity to call American "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave."
Some people still believe that we are a democracy.
This just makes me sick and embarrassed for this once great nation.
I am often asked why I want to fight and advocate for "those people,"----my friends are always referred to as "those people"----- meaning the people in prison and those on the sex offender registry. People cannot understand why I would waste my time with "THOSE PEOPLE."
Now you know why.

It was a huge hit with about 200 guests. We got so many compliments on our hard work and the great time they were having. There are so many nice pictures on Facebook with everyone saying they reconnected with old friends. But let me tell you, I am glad it is behind us. We all put a lot into it. We are having a lunch meeting next week, which I am looking forward to. Yesterday was...

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

I'm atheist and I don't for a minute think that someone is more moral just because they're Christian. In fact, often quite the opposite. And I'm not talking about Duggar type Christianity either...the plain old girl next door type I don't see as more moral.
I do believe that we're a democracy. We vote for our leaders. The buck stops with us for what we accept and what we don't accept. If we give up "freedoms" it's because we've decided to do that.
In the end, "those people" are all people. We treat each other only as well as we treat the weakest link.
I gave my kids an analogy of a bicycle. Would you get on a bike if you knew that every 100th time, you'd risk loosing your leg? What if it was every 1000th time? What if you'd ridden it a couple hundred times, but knew that the odds were still there, and that if you kept riding and riding it would sooner or later get you?
Neither of my kids wanted to ride the bike.
The analogy explains drunk driving. It also explains what it's like for those of a "lesser" class. Black, poor, Native American...whatever. The particular sub-class varies with location. Given the right circumstances, it's me. I'm not so special.
