Here is an article from my home state----Oklahoma---- regarding the private prison situation and how the state uses those prisons to supplement the DOC prisons in this state. I suppose they need all the prison space they can get, as Oklahoma is a "lock 'em up" state.
The private prison rates----the amount they charge Oklahoma----has increased substantially in the last few years. As a result, inmate services and programs have been drastically cut, which is never good. I supposed instead of spending around $2.50 a DAY to feed an inmate, they will now reduce it to closer to $2.00 a day. No more generous helpings of grits!!!

I don't know how anyone could expect an inmate to live in these conditions and come out a better man, ready to be successful in society. With no programs for rehabilitation and no hope for many of these inmates, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy that they will come back to prison. But maybe that is their plan, to keep the prisons full so the private prison corporations can continue to make billions of dollars off the backs of the downtrodden and their families.
Hell, who knows?

I noticed that where the prisoners were allowed to work outside, learn positive skills, that the result is positive, not profit.
In any case, I agree with you that prisons aren't out to "reform" anyone.
As an atheist, I think it's up to us to bless ourselves....or not...
If private citizens own a hotel they want it full all of the time... This is how they make their money and people will go to great extremes for the almighty buck
If prisons are government run that changes things dramatically and I can just go by our system however it is much more fair and reasonable I think (with total respect for my American friends)
I think changing your system might change the insane 'time' people are receiving... I know this is heartbreaking for you R and I hope one day it will change... I know it can with people like you working so hard all the time... Big hug...xo
