I am so sorry. :-( There is another post on here from last year where people were dealing with the same thing. I can't remember what they did but there was quite the discussion about it. I think this is horrible.

Just went to the site listed in the link. My son's name is there. I didn't pay to see if his SSN is correct. I think it should be illegal to have SSN listed!!!

I have started my claim and will be finishing mine today. How long did it take for you to find out that is was rejected? What steps do you have to take to get it fixed? I could care less about the money but if someone else claimed Collin, it is just wrong and they do not deserve to get any money from claiming him. Im just praying this doesnt happen to me. WHere do you live?

I found out the next day. I have to do a paper return then wait and jump there hoops until it gets figured out. I contacted fox 6 news and they want to do a story on it. If any of you want to share your story please let me know. They would also like to talk to others out there that this has happened to.

It happened to me too. Austin died in 2009 and we got the same notice... that he was claimed on someone else's taxes. Along with smmcclung and tmmclung (other DS parents) we did a news story with a Baltimore station.
You are right. It is very sick. I guess these people have no conscience at all.

there were a bunch of us that this happened to when we filed our 2008 taxes. Like Brandy said we contacted our local TV station & I know we had interviewed with a couple other stations for the other families that it happened to. It really sucks. I usually post something at the beginning of every year just to give people a heads up but I haven't gotten on here in a while. Contact the Taxpayer Advocacy Office, they helped us out. The IRS & SS offices were useless. they just kept pointing fingers at each other. I'll send you my contact info if you want to talk more.

Is there anyway you can file a complaint with the federal government? Hopefully this person that stole his SS number and used it to file a false IRS tax return gets charged with a federal offense because the IRS is a federal entity.
