Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is any sudden and unexplained death of an apparently healthy infant aged one month to one year. SIDS is responsible for roughly 50 deaths per 100,000 births in the US.

Talya was five weeks old, and had her first and only vaccination less than 48 hours before she died -- I will always wonder about the connection between these two things.

And you're kind of right about them calling it SIDS when they "just can't figure it out." SIDS is usually ruled when they perform a complete autopsy and do an investigation of the death scene and can find no other probable cause of death. It does nothing to keep us from asking "why" or second-guessing ourselves, though. I wish I had an answer, too.
