I belong to a too young for stroke group on FB and a lot of people talk about personality change but it seems to be the opposite way. They are having problems with anger after the stroke. For me after having the stroke I had a different outlook on life.

It could be that he has grown through his trials. It could be that the stroke affected areas of his brain that involve whatever it was that produced the negative thoughts or feelings that led him to show anger so easily. Maybe some of both. I appreciate reading about this as I am watching my husband to see what he will be like from here on out. I know now that he will never be just like he was before. I'm glad for your husband that he now has the gift of patience.

My observation as a wife of a three year stroke survivor is this : In the beginning they appear child-like, complacent, agreeable, and easy to get along with.

As time goes on they regain some of their prior anti- social personality. I call it it the Med reduction.....after their docs reduce the heavier stroke meds.

Enjoy his mild mannered persona. I hope it lasts.

Thanks for the replies. Right after the stroke he was very child- like as you said Phoebe. He would also sleep for most of the day. Once he went off Kepra and they changed his meds around when we really noticed the difference. They modified his medication and depression medicine a few time. He would get quite irritable during those times. For now he seems to have a good balance
One of the other biggest changes with him is he only thinks of himself. If the kids are upset, he doesn't care. If someone I eating something he wants he will reach across and take it.
