Pregnancy and anti-depressants?

After losing my daughter I have become sad... Like really sad... I have always been a very happy person. Always quick to smile and always there to help people. Since losing Aubree, I have become mean and hateful. I hate people with kids even though I don't know them. I hate people who are pregnant even if they are the best mother in the world. I feel like I can never be happy again and I blame myself for Aubree's death. It's taken a toll on my friendships, my relationship with my fiance and my jobs. I hate the person I have become. All I do at night is cry and I have been suicidal. The only reason I don't go through with it is because in the Bible it says not to or you'll go to hell. And if there happens to be a heaven or a hell I want to make sure I don't jeopardize my chance of being reunited with my daughter.

Recently I have been becoming more sad, and hateful, and depressed. But my fiance and I are still trying for another baby. I didn't want to go on meds because I'm afraid of what they can do to a fetus. But I'm also afraid that if I don't go on them that I won't last much longer. So are there anti-depressants that won't be harmful to a baby that I can take?

I was having a really crazy down day yesterday. I get like that too sometimes. Where Im not only sad but Im angry, exhausted and I just wanted to ask my doctor for medication, but Im so scared of the effects it will have on my baby. Im 28 weeks. I was searching on-line last night for medication that is safe. Apparently from my research, there are many woman that have taken medication all through out their pregnancy and ther baby is fine. Some said they took Zoloft. Another one was a small dose of lexapro. I read some people taking wellbutrin. I would definitely ask your doctor which one they think is the safest for you to take.

I have also experienced severe depression and anxiety and lots of anger. Even very serious thoughts of suicide. I believe I had them a lot after I lost my Ethan, but strangely enough, even stronger after my daughter who is very much alive and with us. I think that the chances of postpartum depression are higher after having girls than boys. All the wacked out female hormones in your body take a while to normalize. It took a good six months for me after my girl.

You had a girl and you are grieving. This is a double whammy! Give yourself some rest, some time to heal. Go to your doctor and ask about the antidepressant. If the doctor doesn't think you should be taking it during pregnancy then give yourself a break from trying to get pregnant and focus on healing.

Everything you are feeling right now is completely normal for what you have been through. I used to hate people with living children and I used to get sick to my stomach every time I saw a pregnant woman. I was so own I didn't want to leave my house. I was also TTC shortly after my loss but I knew I had to get up and function for DH and my then 6 year old boy. I asked my OB for antidepressants that would be safe during pregnancy and he put me on Zoloft because he said it was one of the safest antidepressants for uses during pregnancy mainly because it has been around for awhile and there haven't been any problems when used during pregnancy. I saw a maternal fetal specialist when I became pregnant with my rainbow and he also assured me that Zoloft was safe. I tool it the whole time I was pregnant and my rainbow was born on 7/11/11 and he is perfectly healthy.

I think you would benefit greatly from talking to your doctor and hopefully find something to help out through this time. I pray that you find more peaceful days ahead and that you have your screaming rainbow in your arms very soon.

I called my doctor today and put me on a low dose of Zoloft. I'm really hoping it works faster than 6 weeks! I hate the way I feel. It's like I've turned into someone I don't know anymore! I've been trying to get pregnant as soon as I could have sex again. And it seems like every month that goes by and I'm not pregnant the more sad I get.

That is good news. My Zoloft kicked in in about 2 weeks and I was feeling better. I hope this works great for you. Take care.

I took an antidepressant with my Angel baby, Annaya and I was told that it would cause her to be lower weight. I was also on a beta blocker for stress induced PVCs which contributed to her death.

If you choose to remain on antidepressants throughout your pregnancy, make sure you are being monitored closely.

It's been 2 years since I lost Annaya and I suffered from depression prior to my loss. I have not been on meds for over a year. I want to make sure I am med free before trying to conceive again.

I was never on any medications or anything else besides for birth control when I got pregnant. They gave me a low dose knowing that I'm trying to get pregnant again. I"m going on month 3 now of trying... Still no luck. :-/

I'm a neurodevelopmental therapist. I work with kids with developmental disabilities like Autism but also with kids with anxiety, ADHD, OCD. I can say for sure that it is not a good idea to take anti-depressants or any other medications of that kind during pregnancy. I see a correlation between use of these kinds of drugs and neurological abnormalities. Just because there aren't conclusive studies yet doesn't mean it's ok. And unfortunately, just because your MD prescribes it doesn't mean it's ok.
