This community is dedicated to those who have been impacted by a stillbirth. A stillbirth occurs when a fetus which has died in the uterus, during labor, or during delivery exits a woman's body. My name is Karina and my husband and I had our little angel, Michael, on January 24, 2012. Today it will be 2 weeks since we learned he no longer had a heartbeat. He was 34 weeks when he was born and he weighed 5.2 lbs and was 18 inches long. I arrived to the hospital already in labor and immediately we knew something was wrong. They couldnt find a heartbeat and my heart just sank. I knew then he didnt make it. I have a 6 year old daughter and my pregnancy with her was almost perfect. This time around my pregnancy was extremely difficult. I went to the emergency room 2 times when I was 7 and 18 weeks pregnant and at 13 weeks we went in for genetic testing because my serum levels were off and the doctors though it could be due to genetic abnormalities. At 15 weeks we got our results and they all came back negative for genetic abnormalities. My husband and I were happy and we learned the baby was a boy! Still my pregnancy remained difficult and I was labeled high risk and saw many doctors and specialists. For the remainder of the pregnancy I felt emotionally horrible and at times I even thought it might be best if I wasnt pregnant at all. Then there were times when I felt him kick and nothing else mattered and it all seemed worth it.
One week before he was born I had an appointment and everything was fine. He had a strong heartbeat and was moving and kicking like usual. The day before he was born I noticed I hadnt felt him move but by then I was having contractions and thought things could still be ok or at least I wanted them to be ok. That Tuesday when he was born I came home at night and went back as far as I could in my mind to try to figure out what went wrong. I tried to replay the last few days and weeks to see if there was something I could have done or missed. It was driving me crazy! I woke up crying one morning because I still didnt have an answer. I decided to search for people who have gone through what I went through with my Michael and came across this website. I usually read a few stories each day and it has helped me heal and not feel so alone. I am in a more positive place now and wanted to share my story like many of you have done. Ive reached the point where Im ok not having an answer and am looking to find comfort here while sharing my story.

The due date is really hard, so be prepared for that to be a very difficult day/week/month leading up to it. I went and lit candles with my man and stepson at st Patrick's cathedral, and that really helped me feel like I was doing something to honor our son.
My man and I have grown closer after this experience and want to try for another baby, but we will NEVER forget our angel.
I have found comfort here with these amazing women and their experiences help me feel less alone with the pain. These early weeks are really hard so be patient with your heart and don't feel alone. We truly all know how you are hurting for your baby.

I'm glad you have found this group. The women here are amazing and we all understand what you are going through. No one should have to endure this pain but at least we have each other. ((Lots of Hugs))
