My 19 year old niece just had a baby girl born at 25 weeks. My niece did not want her baby. The day she found out she was pregnant she called me to ask if I would take the baby once it was born, at which point I said no and had to remind her of my recent loss. She drank alcohol and took drugs the entire time she was pregnant. When she began having contractions at 23 weeks she was admitted to the hospital and told she would have to remain there until her due date or risk an early delivery. She left the hospital two times against the advice of her doctors. The entire time she was calling me and complaining about her hospital stay. The nerve! I told her she should be thankful she has an opportunity to eventually bring a baby home unlike me who had to bury my baby. My point is that in addition to our losses we must face the injustice that people like her, who should never be given the opportunity to be a parents, are somehow granted that undeserved blessing. She did everything humanly possible to try and have a miscarriage and now that poor baby is having to fight for its life being born too early. It has been so tough to deal with. She even called me asking to visit her and the baby in the hospital. I had to remind her yet again that a maternity ward is the last place on earth I want to visit since my son's stillbirth. Facing situations like this make my grief process just that much more difficult. Any advice on dealing with this situation?

My suggestion would be to distance yourself from your niece temporarily. What we have to remember is that while our lives changed because of an unfortunate situation others will have their lives change because of positive experiences. Hopefully your niece will grow and love this baby or will have enough love to let someone else who maybe can not have children love this baby. While it can be hard, try to find the good in all situations.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
