Well I had one performed on my son because I wanted to know.
I don't regret it but I'm not happy about it either. I did find out that he was perfectly formed and that he was a 'normal' baby boy who just happen to be stillborn.
I did find out that the placenta had an infection. But they arn't sure if that's the cause of death or not due to term baby placentas do sometimes have infection and both mom and baby are healthy and well.

So, either way I knew I would have regret when it came to signing off on my son's autopsy....

What you must remember tho is that you did what was right for you and your family. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I didn't have one preformed on my baby because I knew the reason why. She died while I was giving birth to her which I take as a blessing because I don't know how I would have handled it if I had to watch her die. I had such a severe infection in my uterus that I had no choice but to deliver her or I could have possibly died. I questioned my choice for so long after I had her if I made the right decision. I went and saw my family doctor because I was having trouble sleeping. My doctor told me that my infection was the worst she had ever seen, and if I had not delivered my daughter, I would have died. It gave me some relief to not feel so guilty. You will always wonder why, and what if, because I still do.

I just wanted to offer a hug to you. I did have an autopy done because that was best for MY family. If I wouldn't have had it done then I wouldve blamed myself the rest of my life because I didn't know. You just did what was best for YOUR family momma.But anyway I just wanted to offer some love to you!

I am so sorry. I didn't have an autopsy either and so far no cause has been determined. I n some ways I wish I did do it, but I can;t change things.

In addition, shortly after this happened to me, my co- worker miscarried and another co -worker had a series off mysterious gland flare ups. We are all teachers and work in a very old building which is being remodeled. It makes me wonder if I did agree to the autopsy, if they would have found something genetic or if it was caused by environmental toxins, etc. I guess I will never know.

We chose no autopsy and I do wonder if we may have found something wrong with him. They're pretty sure it was placental abruption but I just know what to think. No answer as to why it detached is killing me. Hugs to all...

We didn't have one done either, as my placenta did attach. I'm sure they could have found out more if an autopsy was done, but I personally couldn't go through with it. I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way of dealing with this; you just needed to do what was right for you at the time. Don't beat yourself up over this . . . you are dealing with so much that that's the last thing you need. Thoughts and prayers.

We choose not to have an autopsy as well. We decided this before I even delivered my daughter. They took blood from me, analyzed the placenta and we did agree to a skin graph of the baby, but we decided that was enough. Now I don't know. When I delivered Molly we knew right away she wasn't well (even though my pregnancy was normal and all of the ultrasounds and doctors apt. were perfectly normal). The doctors believed that she had down syndrome, but needed to do genetic testing with the skin graph. The results came back six weeks after she was delivered that she did not have down syndrome or any other chromosonal disorder, but they did not provide any other information. We called the genetic doctor and he has yet to call us back!!! We have been waiting for a call for over a month! I called back again and made an appointment but still asked him to call, but he still hasn't! Ridiculous!!! He only sees patients once a month and the October DAY was full, so we have to wait until late in November to even talk to this man to ask if anything could be tested for or if he has any idea what was wrong with our daughter. So increadibly frustrating and I do question if we did have an autopsy if we would know. I would like to know for Molly, but also for planning in the future... anyways, I am going through something similar...

I did not have an autopsy preformed on my son. My doctor said that only 35% would get a result from the autopsy so we chose not to have it done. We all have what ifs and regrets. I'm not sure if knowing would make it easier. I believe it is hard either way. Many hugs and prayers to you.

no autopsy, no regrets, you went with what was in your heart and made the right decision. I can't imagine having Anna Sophia in that situation either so I didn't want to. I understand why others do and it's to each their own.

I had an autopsy done on my son. The doctors told me it was important because if they did find something wrong with him it could help in future pregnancies. Since this was my first pregnancy, I thought it was a good idea. I do not regret it, even after they found nothing wrong with him. If I didn't do it I would have always wondered. I try not to think about what they physically have to do to perform it. I am sure he would understand if it possibly meant saving a future pregnancy (sister/brother)...or at least having some answers.

We aren't sure why my daughter passed away either. In our case, after a normal labor and delivery, she was born with no heartbeat. She was in the NICU for 27 hours before she passed away and many tests and x-rays were run which all showed negative for any infection, syndromes, defects, etc. It makes me angry sometimes to think about how perfect she was. We actually weren't offered an autopsy after she passed so I figured the neonatologist knew why she died but it turns out he doesn't. She was not born at the hospital she died at so it's not like they were trying to hide anything like negligence. I still wonder why we weren't offered an autopsy but I'm pretty sure we would have declined anyway. I do struggle with not knowing but don't think I would have chosen an autopsy. However, it's so hard knowing how to protect future children when we have no idea why our daughter passed away. I'm sorry you're in the same frustrating situation of not getting answers.
