Going back to work is tough, i will not kid you about that. I went back 3 weeks after my daughter was born. I highly recommend that you have an advance coping strategy, have someone on standby to call up and talk when you need a listening ear, store lots of tissues in your work drawer, rehearse your response to the people who did not for some reason find out about what happened to your son, the canteen lady, the guard, the gardener..i had to practice looking at myself in the mirror and saying with a straight face: "she died"..cos I had to say it over and over and over at work. Thank you so much for your advice, I defiantly need to practice what I'm going to say because I know that will be the hardest for me. There were no kids at school today (school doesn't start until next week) so I was able to hide in my classroom most of the day and only see a few close co workers.
One of my biggest concerns is what to say when a past student of mine asks... uggg I just wish I had my baby and didn't have to go through this.

As difficult as it is for you to go back to work it's probably a good thing that the kids aren't there yet. That way you can get all the adults out of the way first before you have to deal with any questions you might get from the children. When I went back to work, in a school, after we lost Jane I actually found the few questions that I got from the kids easier to handle than the silence or side glances I encountered from a few, and it was only a few, of the parents and co workers. Practicing what you'll say if a child asks a question is a great idea. For me, most of the children already knew that my baby had died and didn't ask many questions but I do remember being asked by one child, where my baby was, (and I'm paraphrasing here)could she see her, this child hadn't heard the news I guess. I just told her that my baby had died, she asked how, I said in my tummy before she was born, she said why, I said the doctors just didn't know. She said that's sad, I said yes I'm very sad about it. It was a pretty simple conversation actually, and I got through it just fine. I think because the children are so innocent and ask simple questions it makes it easier, also I felt like I had to hold it together for her sake. Very soon people stop asking questions because they've got their answers I suppose. I wish you the best of luck at work, you'll get through it, I think the anticipation of what's going to happen is sometimes worse than the event itself. Best wishes.
