8 Months have passed since we lost Grace. The topic of trying again has come up a few times and I feel ready and not ready at the same time. I can finally hold a baby without bursting into tears. Every time I see a mom and a baby girl I think "that should be me" or "I'm ready for that".
I have a strong support system and a very loving and amazing other half, but I still find myself scared to death that I will lose this next one too. Her death was nobody's fault it was a knotted umbilical cord, nothing we could've done. Its just hard not knowing for sure.
With Grace, I changed everything, ate better, exercised more... I did everything right and still lost her so how do I know I can have a healthy baby? For those who have had a baby after stillbirth, how do you handle the pregnancy? I'm so afraid of being pregnant again, and could use some advice or at least nice words of encouragement.

It's really normal to be afraid during a subsequent pregnancy after such a loss, It's just human nature. I lost my first baby in August of 2002 and her sister was born in July 2003. I was extremely anxious during my pregnancy with my rainbow baby, but at the end of nine months of fear I came home with a beautiful and healthy baby girl. I feel very fortunate, I know that having another baby isn't always an option for every woman and that must be heartbreaking, I can't imagine the pain that would cause. I remember wondering if I could have a healthy baby too, and I did, and more after her, but I was always so relieved when that crying baby was placed in my arms. The fear never leaves but you can do this. You have to take it day by day, there are moments of terror and also of great joy. Best of luck.

I lost my daughter Sep 2012 and May 2014 I gave birth to my rainbow. With the rainbow pregnancy I tried my best to separate myself from the pregnancy. It was my thinking that if I lost this child then it wouldn't hurt as much. But after I felt the kicks and movement then it all changed. I fell love with my rainbow. There were times that thought I lost him but it was my son just sleeping and me in desperate attempt trying to wake him up with orange juice. The pregnancy was stressful and all the doctor appointments were stressful. I'm thinking about trying for another rainbow but I'm not sure if I want to go through another pregnancy. I will be truthful for me it was not easy, physically the rainbow pregnancy was a breeze but mentally it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But the end result is a healthy alive baby boy. I wouldn't change a thing! Good luck and be prepared to make friends with the doctors. Make sure that you trust your doctors and that they are willing to make your next pregnancy as stressless as possible.

It is totally normal to feel scared. I lost my little angel in January of 2000. (I already had a healthy little boy at home during this loss.) I got pregnant again and had a healthy little girl in January of 2001........almost exactly one year later after my loss. I was terrified of losing her all the way through. I analyzed everything I did and it was torture to get through, BUT it was SO worth it in the end. When I held her for the first time I realized that I would never forget my angel baby but that I finally had my "empty arms" filled with a bundle of joy. She helped my heart to heal:) You will get through it one step at a time, one day at a time.

What you are feeling is completely normal. I lost my Evelyn 7 months ago due to a cord accident. I am now 9 weeks pregnant. At first I had so many mixed emotions and I still do. I'm so much more worried now than ever before. The only thing I can tell myself is to take it one day at a time and to try to enjoy this pregnancy like I enjoyed every moment of Evelyn's. I'm sure like most our doctors, they have told us that chances of having another cord accident is slim to none. To me that was reassuring. We're all here for you. Sending you lots of hugs and love.
