Step Families Support Group
Traditionally, a stepfamily is the family one acquires when a parent enters a new marriage, whether the parent was widowed or divorced. This community is focused on many of the relationships and issues that may arise within stepfamilies where you may find answers from some members and you may help other members with their questions.
My parents met when I was 2, and instantly my step-dad was "daddy". He raised me for 26 years. I always thought of him as the greatest thing since someone decided to put peanut butter and jelly together on bread.
But as I got older, I realized he was abusive in a sneaky way. I have always actually feared him because he scowls at me if I need something, and made fun of me constantly (not in a loving way, but in cruel ways). But, I never really thought too much of it because he would spoil me with things. He always bought me the prettiest dresses, any toy I wanted, any clothes I wanted, and when I got older he bought me 2 cars and paid for every piece of baby furniture for my son.
My mother has always had control issues, and has viewed me as eternally 13 years old. She tried to take over complete control of my son, and even tried to kidnap him back in October. She isn't speaking to me, and now my step-dad doesn't consider me to be his daughter anymore. My birth-father has never really been in my life.
I'm lost and I don't know what to do. My step-dad says he's going to fight to get custody of my son (which I'm told he has no rights to do so). But, If he doesn't think of me as his daughter, then doesn't that mean my son is nothing to him as well? He physically assaulted me in front of my son the night they tried to kidnap him, and now my son fears him. So why do I feel so lost now?
Any thoughts on this?

No Court can take your child away from you providing you have been and are a good mother to your son - which it sounds like you are to me.
It sounds to me like you almost want to resolve things with your family, especially your stepdad. Maybe writing them a heartfelt letter, explaining all the things you've felt over the years and why. Or maybe family counselling?
