Step Families Support Group
Traditionally, a stepfamily is the family one acquires when a parent enters a new marriage, whether the parent was widowed or divorced. This community is focused on many of the relationships and issues that may arise within stepfamilies where you may find answers from some members and you may help other members with their questions.

I joined this group, not knowing what to expect. I just thought it would maybe help my nerves and sanity to hear it from others that its hard. Its frustrating. Im a 29 yr old step mom to a 15 yr old girl. I also have full custody of my sister, who recently turned 18. There is more estrogen in my house then what the walls should allow. If someone is crying or complaining, their rolling their eyes and storming off. For the most part, they are both great kids, with loving personalities. But when we clash.....oh do we clash. The younger, lies about grades, chores she clearly hasnt done, and other assorted stupid things that dont warrent lying! This is normal teenege behavior isnt it? Tell me its a phase, and it gets better!

I sure hope it's normal teenage behavior, my 11 y/o SD does the same stuff lol. Some days are great, some days I want to run out of the house screaming. She goes insane about the weirdest things and seems to like different things everyday. It's quite exhausting. I don't remember being that bad, but perhaps it's just girls??

Im being told more and more that girls are worse then boys at this lovely age. Though, I can say, if I ever even thought of talking like this to either of my parents or any respected adult..... I would have gotten the look of death which would mean..... Your in some sh*t as soon as these people leave.

Thank you for saying that.......I have a hard time biting my tongue with my stepchildren because they are openly defiant. I popped off to my mother once while we were walking into the busiest section of the mall (as a teenager this was huge)......she turned around and slapped the piss out of me. Everyone turned to look, it was embarrassing, I never did it again. You don't have to beat a kid to teach them a lesson, but I do believe there are times when time out or taking a privilege away doesn't do the trick quite as well as a quick reality check. It's hard with my stepkids because I do get on to them, but there's no reason for me to physically discipline - I feel that's up to my wife and BD if they want to do that, but I feel like a broken record with telling them to not be disrespectful....

The broken record is it!! I often feel like if I say "Watch the mouth" more then any other 3 words. I see her talk to her grandmother (my husbands mom) like that too, and it blows my mind. She just passes it off then buys her some new pajamas. All I can think is ARE YOU SERIOUS!! I had a frank and serious conversation with my husband and said if your mother wants to allow her granddaughter to talk to her like shes nothing, then thats fine. But I will not be talked down to by her. A few arguements, months with no cell phone, playstation, outside social life, or outings with grandma..... I believe I have made my point. :)
