Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
So people just don't get it ...
Hold your head up high you are a mother and always will ...
Heck, even if your ex tries to get your son to call your ex mommy, I would say that you can tell your son that when You-Mommy is around, let's just use Dama because you like Mommy very much.
I feel like I'm stuck in a fairy tale where my husband has been replaced and if I clap three times maybe this imposter will just disappear in a puff of smoke and my real husband will wonder how I never realized that of course he would never be so hurtful.
Clapping didn't work. Guess it's back to counseling tonight. Sorry for rambling, I'm just so tired.
While Dama works for now, what cuts the crap out of me is hearing other people assume we simply must be 2 mommies. I feel like putting up a banner that says ASK GODDAMN YOU!! DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS!
Funny how people love to point out that women can be women regardless of motherhood status, but then once somebody transitions into being a woman, they simply must be 'mommy' now. Even when the trans woman herself is actually more flexible than that.
Which btw, is another thing that annoys me: She wasn't going to fight me for this and do this to me. The lawyers started this conflict!! In the end she compromised and said non-traditional maternal terms only, but there wouldn't have been a conflict at all if not for the lawyers.
But yes, it is hard to change gears and use a new name when you have used a different name for decades and are grieving the loss of that person.
From my readings and interactions, the impression I get is that there are a good number of trans women that are just fine with the notion of being a father, even if some don't want to be called that in public.
Ex: a friend of mine has a 30yo son, and she's fine with her son calling her 'Dad'- the only caveat is in public, to call her 'Dad' would be to out her, so she prefers her name be used in that context. Also, she also knows me well enough to know that asking her ex wife to share "Mommy" is incredibly hurtful. She was the one I'd call at odd hours crying about how hurt I was by this whole situation.
Also, gotta say as far as feelings- I don't have a problem with her being a female- there are lots of females in the world, there's no reason she can't be one as well. However, I was the ONLY mother my son has (and still am.) By using 'mommy' she IS trying to take my role in a way that taking on the role of female isn't. Or that's how it feels, even if lesbian parents manage it.
