Wow!!! This is such a betrayal in my mind. I am so sorry. I will tell you that my spouses kids (who are adults) were initially supportive and have since been very critical and negative. Sometimes I think it’s the shock in the beginning that makes them seem accepting. Hopefully you can have time to discuss this with them and help them process. I would definitely have an issue with your spouse discussing this with them without your permission or presence.

it has put me in such a bind. if I reach out to them, they will show support, regardless of how they actually feel. this was just so wrong on so many levels and he had the nerve to call ME selfish when I expressed my concerns. if I wait for them to reach out to me, I may wait forever. he told them how supportive I am and set the stage to make me look bad if I express anything to the contrary.

So, would you tell them anything contrary to what he did? If so, just tell them that he wasn't exactly completely forthright in his disclosure.

Honestly, I think you should talk to your kids about it and tell them that you are going through a difficult time. They can be supportive of your spouse but also be supportive of you. You can tell them how they can be supportive of you--whatever that means to you.
