So today I went in and signed the divorce papers, and I feel like I unplugged life support to my dear husband. I feel like I gave up hope on the husband I had ever coming back. He wasn't perfect, to be sure, but he was better than this new being occupying what used to be my husband's body. The smiling, slightly rounder face I see in our honeymoon pictures isn't the same as the serious, chiseled face I see when my son calls her.
The guy that loved me would have cared what I thought about things going on in his life, would also have likely favored himself over me, even if I didn't see it for what it was.
But then, that guy wanted me more than whatever else was out there, and would have done what was necessary to keep me around.
SO maybe I'll need to think about this some more.
I do know that the aliens kidnapped my husband and replaced him with a pod person who just doesn't want to be married anymore has wound up being truer than one would think. Doubtful there are aliens up there holding onto my husband somewhere, but just the same...
At first I thought, well, no. But now that I think about it- the business of favoring her sister over me, the business of favoring herself over me when push came to shove- yeah maybe this would have destroyed our marriage somewhere down the line...
And realizing that she only ever saw me as an accessory, or a caged bird. Was I an accessory to the husband? Would I have seen this in the husband eventually too?
