Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
A friend of mine that is herself trans describes some trans folks as being the 'unicorns and rainbows' sort, that think transitioning will fix all, and will stop at nothing to transition.
She tells me that the trans support chatroom I mentioned in the past sees some of those types come in there afterwards, having lost everything thanks to their fervor. I've talked to some that seem to think it was a thing that has to happen, and everyone else was secondary/ less important.
I wonder how long it will take before they realize they've pushed their nearest and dearest away. Will they realize their lack of foresight and planning may have been the reason for their financial troubles?
Will my spouse ever feel bad that she put her transition above her marriage and lost me?
By contrast, I've spoken to spouses/ and this transwoman and heard descriptions that sound positively lovely- of personality improvements that came with transition, of 'doubling up' on love to make sure the cis-spouse felt ok, of making sure near and dear family members were on board and ok with things.
Is your boyfriend seeing a therapist? Maybe that is a good place to start. Or couples therapy so you have someone there to help moderate and talk these things out. I found our therapist to be extremely helpful. It took awhile to find her, but she is very good at seeing both perspectives and helping us see the other side as well.
