You will put yourself through what you're willing to go through you know?
My bottom personally is considered 'high' to some people. I can understand why, there was no cataclysmic event, no lost job or family. However, I was doing things I had always said I would never do, I felt completely cut off from the world and I really had reached a moment where I could no longer imagine my life with or without alcohol and I wanted everything to end. Taking my life seemed like a logical option.
When I'm sober, and keeping a conscious contact with my higher power I don't feel that way about any part of my life, but that's where drinking takes me.
I hear people say things like 'you're bottoms where ever you decide to stop digging' which is something I have to remind myself of a lot. Because, if I let my mind run with it to much its really easy for me to think that maybe I don't have a problem, maybe I was just being dramatic, even though I know that's not true. That has become more and more clear every time I relapsed until I finally decided to 'stop digging' hopefully for the last time.
During that time I was a complete disaster. I drank heavily every night we were there. I went for long runs on the worlds most beautiful beaches, and felt like hurling in the bushes. I went to sit by the surf with my little children and thought I might pass out I was so hung over. I was a wreck. And my disease followed me all the way around the world. I realized when we got back I needed help as stoppimng on my own wasnt working.
I tried again when we got back and it lasted two weeks. I finally got my sorry self to AA on the 28th of March. I havent had a drink since. God has helped me when I couldnt help myself.
