think its called chantix in the usa

I used it last year. I can't recommend it because I had a bad experience with it. By the end of the first day I felt as though if I continued I could be suicidal. I found out later that it affects some people (not all) this way. I do know a couple other people it did help, and they quit. But I know they too had strange emotional issues with the drug. If you try it, just be aware that some people can have bad mental reaction to it!

hiya some folk in the group have used it and had good results and others havent liked it so I suppose its a "try it and see approach" under Docs supervision. I used the nic patches and found they helped

Hi Ariadn...I quit a 37+ yr habit with the help of Chantix.. It is a med that works on the brain to help ease the cravings. I am not sure how it works but ask your Doc or google it. Yes, there can be serious side effects but not everyone gets them. I followed all the directions, taking the medication but continuing to smoke in the beginning. By my actual quit date (4th of July) I was smoking half my normal amount and never even realizing it.. The only 'side' effect I did have was I had very bizarre vivid dreams. It can adversely effect you if you suffer from depression but I still recommend it. It does not make you quit but is an excellent tool to help you quit. I have been living smoke free for over 18 months. If I can do it...so can you.

I tried the chantix and perhaps it helped with the original quit. I was only taking a half dose as the full dosing made me really nausious. While on a trip my second week of quitting (third week of chantix) I ran out of the chantix, we were gone longer than I had anticipated, I found I felt no different without the chantix than I did when I was taking it.......so I never went back to the pills. I'm just as glad i am not taking them, no worry about side effects, and they are pretty expensive even with insurance.

I used it and had vivid dreams. Those were ok except I then became real depressed and started cutting. I did not realize that these fazes were the side effects of chantix until it was too late. But I quickly stopped taking them and went cold turkey. But everyone has different effects. So give it a try and see if it works for you.

I used Chantix to quit smoking and it worked great for me this time. Had tried it one time before and got real emotional. This time it worked great. I quit after taking Chantix for about 3 weeks, ran out of cigarettes one day and decided not to get any more and quit that day. Chantix had taken away the desire to smoke and I felt great. I went to half a dose after about a month because I started having trouble sleeping and the 1/2 dose worked just fine for me and I could sleep. I stayed on it for 3 month, 1 month at full dose & 2 month at 1/2 dose and have been quit for almost 22 month now. Also when I quit this time I also worked very hard on keeping a positive attitude, kind of no matter what, have a good attitude, period....lol.

Ok, I am on day 3 of the full dose. You start off with a "starter" pack. this is 1/2 of what you will be taking for the 12 weeks. You take it twice a day for seven days and you may smoke while doing so. I lowered my intake of cigarettes during this time to try and wean myself off while the medicine was building up. You don't have to do this, but In my mind it's a good idea to get used to not having so many cigs. Some people get sick and discontinue use. If this happens, I believe Chantix will reimburse you your money. Anyway, on week two you start the full dose twice a day. You are not suppose to smoke any cigarettes. For me, I haven't gotten sick yet. I do remember 2 years ago crying for a cigarette when I tried to quit, and this time I have to say, that I have had only a couple of bad cravings on Chantix. This could all be do to my determination or "just in my head", I don't care because never in my 20 years have I ever gone a DAY without a cigarette. Today I am smoke free for 3 days. So all I can tell you is that IF you are REALLY determined, than try Chantix. If you believe you can go cold turkey (unlike me) than I think that is the most successful way to go and the cheaper way to go. Or try both, get really determined and mind set try going cold turkey, and if that truly doesn't work, than try it. Good Luck to you. I am on the Chantix now .. I have to say that it is not for everyone because of the side some people may experience.

Nothing is 100% but the manufacture claims an 80% success rate when used for 12 weeks.

You will feel sick after taking this medication, Try to eat before as this seems to help.
You may have vivid dreams. For me this the case.
If you are suicidal or have emotional problems they say it can really push you over the edge, I would not recommend Chantix if that's the case.

The Chantix blocks your nicotine receptors in your brain and begins a physiological change in your body to make you hate smoking. You still have to change the behavioral side of your life to fight the triggers or the situational environment you put yourself into.

I used it on my last quit and was a non smoker for 6 months...this was about 2 plus years ago. Am on it again and today is day 20. It's a miracle drug for me and I can tell when I need to take a dose as my cravings start creeping in!!! Only down side for me is I get nauseated on the higher dose 2X/day which is annoying but not debilitating. Others have reported suicidal thoughts, weird dreams, or depression. I've had a few dreams I've remembered as I normally have none but other than that I'm happy to use it.
