Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
Years ago (94/95) I was prescribed a trycyclic antidepressant, Amitriptilyne, ("trips" for short) for my residual hypersomnia. It worked great for me for a number of months, but I had to quit taking it, it didn't agree with my metabolism and built up in my system. But that's me, I believe many people still take it, and at many times higher dosage that I was. Metabolism is a funny thing and can often be unpredictable.
You won't find drug companies pushing "trips" the cost was only about $12 per month.
There were other drugs, mianserin was used for sleep in the UK, but I don't know if it was ever licensed over here. I also tried remeron, but it didn't really do anything for me.
