Fro those you who remember what I've been going thru...
Saw the head of the Plastic & Resconstrutive surgery at Sloan Kettering in NYC.
He suggested I don't have additonal plastic surgery to "fix" my nose.
He wasn't sure that it would improve my looks, he also said quite plainly that I would probably have more BCC, and should keep the skin I have.
it was good and bad to hear. Good to hear someone who understood I wanted to look better (three other plasicv surgeons recommended surgery), and not just "do something" after looking so f*ed up.
Also sad to hear that this is the way it is...
Anyway, life goes on.
Love to everyone whose gone thru this. Not a common occurance, and this chat board has been a real ventign place for me, and I appreciate all the support i've been given.

At least you now have the answer you were seeking finally after so many just wanted to slice and dice .
Its a sad fact that once we have them more come to join the party .I was told this as you know right back at the beginning of my journey .
All we can do is be viligent about checking our skin for new spots

I know how you feel. I want to fix my nose too and plan on going to get another opinion from a top resconstructive surgeon outside my insurance plan. I've been putting it off because I'm scared he will tell me the same thing. I hate the results of my flap reconstruction and the scar on my nose which is front and center for all to see.
Did the doc at Sloan recommend anything you can do to touch up the area you're unhappy with?

No, he did not have any advice on improvement. I asked about dermabrasion for my scar and he said he wouldn't recommended it. It would be bloody... but probably not much results.
My scar runs from the top of my nose to the tip and then along the alar. Fortunately (!) I do not have a red keloid scar. But my skin and everything is just a mess.
Essentially, he said there is only doctor in the country Dr. Menick in Phoenix AZ who is better at this than he is. If I had the money and time to see him, I should. I do not have the money or the time.
My problem is the scar, the nature of my skin, my nostril is significantly smaller on one side, and of course the fact i don't have an indentation on one side of my nose. (Oh, and my cheek is hollow and wrinkles have formed on one side of my face because the skin was pulled so tight.)
Before all this, I thought plastic surgeons could fix anything, which is one of the reasons I went into it so naively....
So no, unfortunately, no magic cure or advice. he said to continue to gently massage the area, even after a year and half, it is still healing.
I have a new doctor (my old one retired) and I went in to see him about my semi blocked nasal passage due to mohs. He said that I shouldn't do any more surgical revisions to my flap. However, he has been so helpful with my scar and the indentation of the flap. I told him how much it bothers me emotionally and he said he could use a filler to help make the scar and indentation less noticable. WOW! It worked and now my scar is not indented, my flap is more even and when I put on makeup, it's not so bad. I'm so happy with it. It's not perfect, but so much better!! Next I'm getting my capillaries zapped. I don't know why, but now all this is covered by my insurance. I'm so grateful for that.
He wants to look at again in a few months.
I still use the special makeup.
