Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I would highly recommend Restasis. I have primary Sjogren's and have used Restasis for a long period of time and I have had positive results. I do, however, notice a decrease in tears when I forgot to drop my Restasis, even for just one day. So, if you choose to use it, please use it regularly and know that it may take a week or two to begin working. Good luck!
I have tried restasis several times and it stung my eyes so much that I could not continue taking them. I did stick with them for a few months despite the stinging but they only made my eyes red and hurt. I have 0 tears in one eye and on a scale from 1-10, have a rating of 1 in the other eye. I have lower plugs as well to keep more of the moisure in. Hope you have more luck. I have not cried for 12 years because I just do not have enough tears. My sister tried restasis for her dry eyes though and had much more luck and was able to totally discontinue using any drops at all, but she does not have sjogrens. Hope you have more luck than I did.
