especially if tired , & had to be in company this helped keep me more alert .find also it better to be honest say I am having problem than feel bad because I feel like I have been judged as being stupid because forgotten name something every day,
It helps me to eat a little something about ever 2 hours.
I don't know if it will help you, but it helps me to recognize that even people without SS have completely unexplained brain farts, so I try not to sweat it too much and you shouldn't either.
I forgot the name of a puppy I bred and sold and I named her. This was less than two yrs ago. I had to think of what I named her after and remember her name that way. (Na'vi) This is my passion in life my dogs so when that happened it was an eye opener.
.....I have days with very clear thought and everything just comes easy then days where it goes and I need my drivers license to remember my own name.
I just laugh......
I agree I leave notes everywhere if I have a doctors or dentists or Vet appointment I leave a note where I read the paper to remind me.
Mostly names leave me .... oh well another ten yrs I will be able to hide my own easter candy.
I have found a little regime which helps me a lot. Each day, I take alpha-lipoic acid (300mg) and Acetyl-L-carnitine (500 mg). They definitely give me more energy and more mental clarity. I was taking two of the ALC, but I started getting buzzy and had more trouble sleeping and dropped down to one. The current combo seems really good for me.
Last winter, when I had a big flair, I tried DHEA (50 mg). That also helped. I had energy, could think, felt like exercising a lot (like the old days), and some libido returned (good old male hormones - but I also thought I saw some facial hair growing where it shouldn't). But my rheumy was hesitant about it so I stopped (He had no objection to ALA and ALC.) If things get bad again this winter, I may try it again, but on the lowest dose I can find - 5 mg.
Anyway, if anyone here has tried these, let me know.
Yes, brain fog is terrible and is definitely one of things I consider debilitating about this illness. I used to be considered an amazing multi-tasker and it was nothing to listen to a discussion, read my blackberry on another issue, have a side conversation on another and yet immediately respond to the original discussion in a thoughtful and reflective way. Now I have to concentrate to follow the original conversation and when I'm tired it gets very difficult. I've always been a list person but now I'm obsessive as I couldn't get by without them.
After reading one of your messages on another exchange, I've ordered Krill oil (over fish oil) for OMEGA 3 and was hoping that this may help (as it claims to help with clarity of mind). Does this exchange mean that it doesn't help?
I often joke and tell my kids how lucky I am as I have an extremely curious nature and now I can learn and relearn the same things over and over since I keep on forgetting them so I'll never run out of things to learn. I love your 'hide your own easter eggs' though and I certainly think I'll use this one - if I can remember it :-).
It works positively. Look at the studies. You still need good nutrition and a solid life style also good sleep. Sleep imo is the best for brain fog.
Get tired , get stupid.......I call it.
I've never forgot things to a point of not being able to function or work. Mostly short term memory stuff.....
I just wish my husband didn't believe I had "selective memory," lol! He's the one who handles the calendar; no other choice - I will immediately forget to write something down. Or I'll do something like go into the kitchen to get my hubby a cup of coffee, and either forget it or put it in the refrigerator.... Sometimes I can catch myself; at other times....oh, well...
Caught myself half way.....burst out laughing. Other times I have put things in the fridge that belonged in the pantry.
Laughter......is ....the best medicine.
Use post it notes or write things down on a calender as soon as you make the appointment. I have a dentist, a family doctor, a rheumy and a orthopedic for my spine. Never mind the pain clinic doctor for epidurals when my back kicks up.
Lastly an eye doctor........if I don't write them down I'd be going to the wrong doctor at the right time and the right doctor at the wrong time.
I feel pretty good too. Imagine.....
I liked the Easter egg piece too - hard to find fun anymore,,,heck I am up at 3am wishing my body would let me go back to sleep but thanks Tom for the smile!
