Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
I know the feeling of being "lost." But, also know that this will awaken many other emotions in you. Even though my spouse did not play an active role in parenting, I started to wonder what will happen to my kids if something were to happen to me. I got my estate in order....will done, power of attorneys, etc. That put my mind at ease and at peace.
I won't kid you...it's hard to be both mother and father. If your child has a male relative that you are close with....your brother, or a grandfather, have them spend time with that relative. My daughter was 14 when my her father died; my son was 23. My son fell into the "father role", although he took on that role when his father moved out.
You will be able to be both parents simply because you have to. But do remember to take care of yourself. Take time for just you to recharge. Parenting is a tough job...single parenting much tougher.
Remember, you are mourning too. You did love him and you have a child together. Time will heal....
