Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
Welcome to the group. It's hard to feel trapped, and like any decision you make won't give you the results you're looking for. Here are some things I'd be thinking about in your situation. Some of them are phrased as questions. I saw that you want to keep a lot of things private, so don't feel obligated to answer me, but if you know the answers for yourself it may help you.
I stopped working years ago when I couldn't keep safe childcare for my child who has a fairly substantial disability. I really wish it hadn't been necessary, but at the time it was really the only safe choice for him. I've been wanting to go back to work for several years now. It's tough, but I totally recommend working, if possible. Are your kids old enough that you could work, even part time? That would give you a little more flexibility and independence. It is hard starting over from scratch, I've been off work so long that my prior employment isn't even verifiable anymore. I wish I'd been able to go back to work years ago, but we moms do what we have to. As long as you have someone safe who can/will watch your kids, this could be a real good move for you whether you stay in your relationship or not.
Is leaving your relationship an emergency (like in cases of abuse)? if so, leave no matter what. But, otherwise, can you try working on the things that are bothering you? (Hopefully you can identify what these things are for the two of you). Are the two of you communicating about how things are going? Will he work with you as an equal partner on your relationship? Crying almost every other day because you're unhappy in a relationship is a pretty severe reaction. If your best friend or sister knew all the details what would they think you should do? Do you need to be screened for depression?
No one can really tell you what to do, but these are some things I'd be thinking about. Only you can decide what's best for you. I hope you find what works for you and your family.
Hugs and best wishes. Feel free to vent or post on here any time.
