Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
maybe that is why she is so upset about it??
just a thought..
I dont want to step over the line, but are you guys getting married soon?
also, even though you are together, there are still boundries with parenting. even though it may seem ok, to yell at eachothers kids, or how ever that happens. that can seriosly turn into tension between the parents. maybe sitting down and talking about whats too far and whats ok to do with each others kids. when is disapline too much on your part or his.
this is a very touchy subject to talk about, i know. but if it isnt descussed. the more problems will emerge, and your relationship might be at risk.
I'm only saying this because my best friend and i almost ended our friendship because i had a kid, and pregnant, and she was taking over. and i didnt have the courage to tell her what was going too far until we kept having blow outs and fights.
she and i have been living together only for a couple of months. and it was the worst few months because all we did was fight. I know its a different senario because she had now kids. but, on the same notion.
she did things that urked me, and i did things that urked her about my kid. and how we disaplined WAY differently.
recently we had to sit down and talk about what was too much, and what was ok. essencially because i was in so much pain with pregnancy i let her take over because i was too tired, and too distraught. but i told her when this baby comes and everything is back to normal. (i'm out of town) this is what is to happen, we need to be on the same page, and my daughter needs to know my word and my word only is final say.
now, i know that you're situation is a little different.
but until the word "marriage" comes to play. i think its safe to talk about you're your childrens mom and he's his kids dad. no more than that. yes you can help eachother out with certain things and ask eachother "is this ok for so n so."
and when you guys stick through and do get married, then its mom and dad.
i only say this because JUST in case you don't stay together, theres no confusion amongst the kids.
i hope i didnt step over the line with my opinions. but i really would like to help out with your current questions.
