Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.

I am hoping to get some suggestions as to what has worked for those of you who share custody.
My ex just moved to Lafayette ( about 40 min away from us). He has the kids once during the week and this is a problem. My son needs to maintain a very regimented schedule each morning/nite and I know ex does not adhere to it and it severly screws up his success the next day at school. Ex is not willing to 'give up his weekends' and I dont know where to go with this. at this point I have full custody even though he is supposed to have them 20% of the time. I would just say fine, I'll keep them, because it really is what is best for Ryan. Ex is not committed to any of the numerous appts each month. My son is high maintenance, I LOVE HIM TO DEATH but I NEED a break to recharge. I dont think I can count on him.

I'm a little confused...does your ex have him one day during the week only? What about the every other weekend...are you saying he does not take advantage of that, but wants one night during the week instead?

The schedule dictates him having them on Thurs night and every other weekend. Each weekend he should be spending time with them, something comes up and he needs me to cover, which to my detriment, I have been doing. The Thursday night thing just became a problem when he moved, and when for lack of time he does not do what is required for our son. I am sure my daughter would be fine ine day a week, as she is older and more adaptable. But, with our son and his issues it sets him up for failure -which leads to other things....

sounds like i just need to take back the thurs and stick to my guns on his weekends and not give in.

Sounds like maybe the Thursday night needs to be taken away. He is the one that moved, so it should be possible to revisit the schedule. If its disruptive for your child I think they should take that away and tell him if he wants to be a dad to stop missing his weekends. Maybe if they take away the Thursday, he will start using his weekends again. I understand the breaks...they are good to get things done that might not be so easy when the kids are there. And as a single mom, its not like you get a break by running to the store while the kids are tended to by dad or something like that.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
