Single Dads Support Group
This community is dedicated to fathers who are going through the parenting process alone or without the support of a spouse. Single parenthood is often opted for by the parent (as in divorce, adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, or extramarital pregnancy), or an unforeseeable occurrence (as in the death of one parent or abandonment by one parent).
I feel for your loss, friend. Once worked for a guy who lost his wife to cancer. Heck of a nice guy. One of those heart-on-his-sleeve Philly Italians who would spend a weekend putting a new roof on your house if you asked him to. I think his son was about three when his wife passed away.
He since remarried and is back in the game, to no one's great surprise. He still makes an annual visit to his first wife's gravesite, and I can tell there's an emotional scar to a small extent. In his favor, he had great people around him to keep him propped up during his grief. Same thing that keeps me sane in my own situation. Here's hoping that holds true for you.
God bless,
GDAD
what you need to do is acknowledge your loss and not try to brush anything under the rug. deal with it all head on. as far as help with your children as well, enlist school counselors and teachers, neighbors and family. As well, try and keep an open relationship with your partners family and keep them involved in your children's lives. I am sorry for your situation and cannot relate outside of a close friend who lost their mother when we were kids. The things I mention above is what his own father did. Do NOT split the kids up if there's more than one. They can build a bond which will help them as well in their healing process.
They are 16 now and are lovely girls and I am very proud of them!!
