Single Dads Support Group
This community is dedicated to fathers who are going through the parenting process alone or without the support of a spouse. Single parenthood is often opted for by the parent (as in divorce, adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, or extramarital pregnancy), or an unforeseeable occurrence (as in the death of one parent or abandonment by one parent).
Can't believe I'm even on a website talking about this, but here I am. I have two boys, 8 and 4, perfect little kids too. A week before Christmas (incidentally, two days before my youngest sons birthday) my unmarried mother of my kiddos went ballistic, attacked me and then 24 hrs later told me to pick up the boys for a "sleep over" at my moms. I called the police for a "wellness check" and she they found her attempting to commit suicide.
I got an emergency order of protection for the kids since I don't know what she will do when she gets out of the psyche ward, but I feel so sad for her. I'm the sole income, I've taken care of her and the kids for 8+ yrs and I don't know how to get out of this situation without leaving her in the street (she hasn't worked since our youngest was born 4 yrs ago). I can't stay with her because our relationship is toxic, I don't feel comfortable leaving the kids in her care without me to organize and provide, but I don't want to take the world away from her.
anyone been in a similar situation? I am open for advice, because I'm totally lost here!
