Short Stature Support Group
Shortness is a vague term without a precise definition and with significant relativity to context. Because of the lack of preciseness, there is often disagreement about the degree of shortness that should be called short.
I often have trouble getting people to take me seriously in person. Online it is not a problem.
See my profile picture? That's me recently. I'm 30 years old, and 5' 2". My appearance is that of a mid-teen, which most people say is that of a 15 year old. I actually ask people I just met (such as when I get a haircut) how old I look, and they nearly always respond with 15 to 16. So when you combine the shortness and the fact that I haven't aged at all since I was 14 years old, it is very hard to get people to talk to me in a serious manner, even if they know my age.
So I figured this is something that might happen to those who are just short, but age normally.
I speak with a broad vocabulary and I don't act immature. Yet despite whatever I do, even when someone knows I'm 30, they talk down to me, simplifying how they speak as if I wouldn't understand otherwise.
Does this happen to you? Even if you are just small, but age in a typical manner?
If so, do you have any sort of advice? I appreciate it.
My biggest issues are a lack of respect, because of my height, and women do not want anymore than friendship.
For me the real problem me is when people act condencentently towards me for being short. I find it incredible disrespectful and irritating because pity is a feeling people only feel for those they consider inferior than themselves.
As far as women are concerned many of them really prefer guys taller than them. Many see short men as weaker and less masculine and will go as far as saying bad things to make us feel awful but those thing should never be internalized by us.
So yeah, it's pretty hard being short.
I think the only way to really deal with this is to strive to not care at all about what people think of you. I realized people's opinions of me only matter when they offer constructive criticism (i. e. criticism on things I actually can/should change) otherwise they must always be completely ignored when not contributing with anything useful.
