Shortness is a vague term without a precise definition and with significant relativity to context. Because of the lack of preciseness, there is often disagreement about the degree of shortness that should be called short.
Anyone else turn down Growth shots and regret it?

When I was younger I was offered them and said I didn;t want them. I was scared of shots and at that age, I didn't really understand what it meant. Now at 26 I wish to God I would have done it. Is there anyone else here that turned them down for whatever reason and wish thry hadn't now?

I turned them down for my son... glad I did. He is too. The Lord makes us what he makes us!

I like DonnaB23's reply...you don't have to be an average height person to be a whole person :)

I too turned down growth shots but because I was advised against it by my doctor. He said "It is not a good idea to put a large engine in a small car". Without his signature our insurance would not pay for it. I don't know what it will turn out to have done negatively in the long run. Like I say though it's the bullying and joking that makes life difficult and not everyone understands how life is not just "normal" everyday when you can't do anything without jokes. I like to surround myself with other short men and women if I can. Taller people just think short people are too funny.

I've turned them down for our son. He is 5 and still wear 2 and 3 T clothes. But he is completely healthy, just small. I can think of much worse things in life than just being short. He doesn't let his size stop him. And he's in a great school where everyone eccepts him for who he is and is more than willing to help him with the things he cannot physically do because of his size. I always tell him that "great things come in small packages."

Nope, didn't go in early enough to be eligible, but I'm glad I wasn't. No one thought to bring me to a specialist till i was already 13. Normally it seems that would be young enough but they took an x-ray of my left wrist and determined that my growth plates were already sealed and I had the skeletal maturity of an average 16 year old girl.

My son came back low in growth hormone and that basically his pituitary just isn't working right - so I see it as just replacing something he is deficient in, how can that be bad? We are just waiting for the approval from the insurance before we go ahead and get the growth hormone injections done.. He is 3, and very developmentally delayed - he acts like he is 18 months old and looks like it too(at this point).. sometimes I wonder about it though..

I appreciate your insights. My son is 2 and a head shorter than two of his cousins who are the same age. I need to make the GH decision for him, and it is not easy. I just want the best for him.

The Genetic Dept wanted me to put my 2 year old on them. I said No..if God wants him to grow he will give him the strength to grow. He is perfect developmentally..has a big attitude but other then that he is fine. I will never do that to him. There are pro's and con's to them..but I could never do that to him.

My parents gave ME the choice and at that age I was not equipped to make a choice like that. At that age it was till fun to be small and I'd yet to understand the regrets I'd have. I'd advise parents to not leave a choice like this in the hands of a child so young who at a young age probably like the attention of being called "so cute" but when they get older may grow sick of hearing they "look like a kid" when they are in fact adults.

Actually I wasnt given this choice and I realy blame my parents for that coz my dad is a doctor. When I think about how my life could ve much better I blame him more.

I'm glad I didn't.. My son lacks part of his pituitary gland.. so he kinda needs it.

My parents never even thought of it. I don't blame them, but it hurts to know that maybe I could have been even 2 inches taller If I had the HGH. I agree with your sentiment that those insanely important decisions should not be left to children under 15. They don't really understand the implications of their decisions. That's why parents are there in the first place, to guide them until they're ready. If I have a son, I will definitely think hard about giving him the shots. I simply don't want to deal with that challenges I had to endure. I just want him to have it better, like my dad did for me (not in the same way, but similar).

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
