Shingles Support Group
Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

I use stinging hot water instead of ice water to stop the itch burning that I have mostly in the morning. I think that it happens in the morning, because I touch the sheets in my sleep with the affected areas of my face. I am not using the hot wash cloth as much as I used to though. It is funny that the sun shining on my forehead will start the itch burn going, but stinging hot water will stop it. Maybe it's the UV rays aggravating the nerves. The wind still bothers me too, but less than it used to. I sure wish I could wear a hat. The hat band goes right across the worst area. In the middle of the winter, in northern Michigan, that can be a bite.
I don't think many get the little bumps like you do. Maybe someone will correct me on that. You had the shingles much worse then most, so maybe your in a league by yourself with those bumps.
A few months back I didn't think I was going to get any better with the "damn" nerve damage. Now this spring, I think I am improving just the littlest little bit. My mood is better because of that.
So you say your pain is not so bad. That is something at least. Maybe your mood will get good enough that someday you will be able to laugh at how your trip to the doctor went. Let's hope so.
i will picture a little pink glowy cloud following you....not a gray one.
take care and be nice to yourself..
