Shingles Support Group

Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

How is Everyone doing?

I've been wanting to come on and ask how everyone is doing - but work is so busy any more that I can't get on - so I decide to get on now I've been having this pain on the side where I had my shingles - its comes and go - but today it decide to stay I have taken the pills I should have but I am not sure wheather to take the other pain pill - it may put me to sleep I can't be sleeping here when there is work to be done

Otherwise how have everyone been doing - just write and said what you been up to - still have PHN I guess we will have that all the time now - been 11 months now - some weeks I have nothing and other weeks - here we go again.

I am doing much much better. PHN pretty much is GONE... after about 14 months! Rarely when I am stressed out or exhausted after a busy day, I will get a little burning pain on my skin on the side where I had the shingles, but its not that bad and goes away quickly!

So glad to hear that you are doing better. Do you still take any medication at all for the pain?

good for you Patty - so glad you are doing much better - I will just pray that my will go away just like yours - I will keep the PHN if I am able to keep my eye open all day and be able to wear my glasses also - so take care

I am doing ok. Still have some PHN pain on my ear.... but B vitamin shots are helping a lot. Glad you all are doing good.

PHN is back and its really hurting Like in the beginging and my doctor will not give me anything stronger - I keep asking she said she will and then another phone call and she now saying she never said it - what is wrong with these dam doctors - maybe they need to feel the pain

Hi Joyous,
Sorry you're having a hard time. I think sometimes too they haven't experienced pain like this. It could also be that there's so much red tape involved documenting the need for pain relief & scrips. It's not fair and everyone is diffferent my pain comes and goes for no rhyme or reason breakthrough pain is tough. Our only recourse is to either find a different Dr or keep bugging them. Good luck

Hi, it's early days for me regarding the shingles, I saw my Dr yesterday and he told me to come back next Tuesday.. & he told me to be prepared for it to last if I'm lucky days...but it could last weeks or months even.

I am presently taking co-codamols for the pain and Aciclovir for the shingles...
