Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.
I was diagnosed with shingles about two and a half weeks ago. I have a few spots that are healing in my eyebrow and my hairline along with a little red spot above my eyebrow. The pain is getting less although it is still there. I am supposed to be going back to work next week and if I do I will be wearing foundation on my forehead. Can anyone tell me when it is safe to wear makeup on the spots? I don't want to do anything at this point to cause an infection. My doctor said the spots looked like they were drying out and it should be okay, but I am not sure. Also, I have an appointment to have my hair colored in two weeksand want to know when it is safe to have your hair colored after having shingles. I am sure that the few spots in my hairline won't be completely faded by then, but will be alot faded. I am really having a hard time with the shingles being were it is, because other than makeup it can't be covered up. Any advice would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend it. I've had cranial nerve shingles and the first day I went back to work I put makeup on my face and it was horrible. The itching was unbelievable. I'm with you, I need a cut and color but I'm holding off while I still have this pain. I cannot imagine someone running a comb through my hair. I can do it myself carefully.

I agree with you both. I have shingles on my face/head and can't find anything to cover the divits on my face. I did color my own hair after 2 months and was successful. The hair cut was a challenge, but my stylist was very careful and I didn't have her wash my hair. Like you both, can't stand even bangs touching my forehead sometimes. I'm beginning to think it's going to be like this for the rest of my life. Doable but not the best. Take care.
