Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.
I was wondering if taking antibiotics would help the shingles spots to heal faster without scarring? I asked my doctor and she didn't feel that I needed them, but the spots seem to be slow in healing. It has been over 3 weeks and I still have the spots. They are fading but slowly. I have one scabbed over in my eyebrow that looks bad to me and I really don't want to scar from this. I am not sure if it is okay to put any creams on it yet as I don't want to aggravate it more. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Shingles is caused by a virus. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so would be of no use for shingles. Did you take an anti-viral medication early in the course of the illness? That is what would help decrease the severity and duration of the illness.

Yes, I took Valtrex for 2 weeks and was prescribed Percocet for Pain. The scab I had in my eyebrow just came off today and took someof my eyebrow hair with it. The spot under the scab still looks very red and indented a little. It reallys bothers me as I can't hide it. I pray it doesn't scar and that the eyebrow hair grows back. I can't believe it has been a month and still hasn't healed. It very discouraging and I wish that there was something that I could do to make it heal faster.
