Shingles Support Group
Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

Mum started seeing a Neurologist. Ran a couple of tests: electromyelogram and a nerve conduction test.
Bad news, I'm afraid.
The nerve seems quite unresponsive; little conduction. He gives little hope that it will ever regenerate sufficiently to give her the use of the foot again as it once was.
Bummer. And it will surely change her entire life... permanently... and not just temporarily as we have hoped. Active lady who can't get out of the house without me (can't drive).
Prayer may be the only hope, so if you got any, we'd appreciate them.
Don't like the Doc anyway. Any Doc who smiles brightly while he gives this kind of news is not a proper guy, if you know what I mean. He just wanted to get the "meeting" over with. Bummer #2.

I'd check out a different type of neurologist for a second opinion, and ask questions of the people you make the appointment with, and then, before the appointment, figure out a way to help your mum physically relax those tensed muscles which can hamper true nerve readings.
Best wishes.
