I have had BV since my late teens. The only times I haven't had it, was during antiboitic treatment for it. Always within days of completing treatment, it returns AND is worse.
I am now 51.
I have tried all methods of treatment. Most recently, I ordered
Femanol through the internet. Very expensive, and ineffective. I truly don't believe there's a cure. Whatever works is only a temporary fix.
This is a horrible condition. It truly robs a woman of feeling complete and confident.
If anyone knows of anything...I would give anything to be cured.

That said, it terrifies me that you've not been cured by the metronidazole! Although, mine has recurred too...

I have begun a "Group" for BV, as it's something that so few people want to openly talk about. I have told no one that I have this other than the multitude of doctors who have tried to help. Please be careful with the metronidazole. Since it's an antibiotic, not only does it kill off the bad bacteria, it kills off the good as well, so when you complete the treatment and the bacteria returns, the bad seems to dominate and the good doesn't have a fighting chance. I have taken it at least 7 times. Each time thinking that this was the time that'll work "for good", but the infection returns always, and worse than it was in the first place. I have started to give up on the medical "routes" to fix this and have been looking at some alternatives. I know so much about this condition, as I've had it for soooooo long. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I will keep you posted on what works and what doesn't. If you like, join my group. (I just started it a few days ago)
Oh..I just thought of something. Because you are killing off the good bacteria when you're on the medication, if there's any hope of it working, you need to replace it while on treatment. Take a pro-biotic Lacidophilus. This is the good bacteria that lives in the vagina. If this bacteria remains while you're on the meds - the chances of the "bad" bacteria taking hold again is less.

I don't like yogurt but I'm trying to learn to like it. the sweetened ones are ok. I'm not afriad to do a direct plain yogurt douche for the next flares, I guess that might help.
Thank Hope, I am taking acidophilus in pills and sometimes a fermented green tea. I need to pick up more of that tea. kambucha.
