I don't know if it still exists but there used to be a Cross march every year in London,that was for survivors of sexual abuse,I think they used to wear purple ribbons,might be worth looking into something like that,good luck,hope you get the support you need,its important to let the world know we are survivors not victims

my frist thought is for you to go to the city and see what you need to pull this off would it cost anything what is needed any permits police dept,public works,try to recruit people from abuse groups near you i am sure there are some then look for funds

thanks guys. I've decided the campaign slogan thing is I'M GONNA TELL. I am starting today. I'm building a website and going for it. Watch for it on the news or internet, you'll know my real name soon.

Here are some bare basics for putting on a walk (or what the city may deem a parade).

1. I'd suggest partnering with a local women's group who can provide support & participants.
2. Contact the city regarding any permits needed to hold such an event. (If you're starting from a church or business you may not need anything ... but if you're starting from a park or public space, you may need a permit, especially if you plan to use more than just the sidewalks).
3. Make up flyers; post them at local stores, churches, bus stops (if that's legal), college campuses, bookstores, libraries, etc.
4. Reach out to the radio, television and news papers in your area and ask them to do a story (even if it's just an announcement. Be prepared, they might want a website or phone number to refer interested parties to. (This is why it's GREAT to partner with an established non-profit women's charity (they've got resources).
5. Plan the event. You will need a route map, first aid station (even if it's just someone with a backpack of stuff), sound system (at min. a megaphone) to address the crowd. See if you can get a radio station to attend the event & use their equipment (ask first but they'll usually allow that for short speeches). Invite local elected officials and/or their staff (if they come you have to follow up with thank you notes).
See if local businesses will donate water, food or snacks for your participants.
Lastly, be prepared to "share" the event. These can be a lot to plan so the more help the better... only problem the more people the more you have to let go and listen to other's input and perspective.

Anyway, like I said ... these are some of the basics. I'm sure you'll find there's a LOT more to it. Don't be disuaded... it'll be worth all of your work!

Good Job! I've been thinking of similar things. I love your I'm Gonna Tell slogan, It's GREAT, perverts might think twice if thats ringing in their ears. I want to EMpower children. Teach them to follow there intuition rather then blindly listening to adults who abuse them. And like you said, that they are heard, and respected and have rights, and should not be abused no matter what, Lets give them there power back. I'd like to help organize one here in Phoenix Arizona.

A group here in Duluth, MN does something I think that might give you information about what they do. They're called PAVSA. They reach out to both women and men who have been sexually abused or assaulted in any way.

It would actually be sort of neat if we could simultaneously plan it for several areas. I mean, we come from ALL over. When the website is up and active, maybe we could gather a list of what needs to be done and then have area leaders for each state (?) and set it all off at the same time... I mean, idealistically, it could be huge. Realistically, it's a lot of planning =P I'd still love to be involved though... I'm from the east, so it's harder for me to make it out to CA.

That's an awesome idea Frump! I'm on the east coast as well but would be more than willing to organize something in the Baltimore or DC area.

that is so great and courageous of you. maybe get in touch with some sexual abuse organisations who may have experience with organising an event like that. Here in OZ we have a organisation that hosts child protection week and white ribbon/balloon day? I think its called.
I wish you all the best and you will make a big difference in so many ppls lives. abuse is so secretive and the best way to fight it is to get it out in the open. make everyone aware and not keep it hidden.

okay guys I'm up and running. the website doesn't have the nice pics or logos or anything, but a lot of the info is there. I still need to do some fine tuning of course but at least we're up and running. Next task, let's organize the march. Let's all pick a date next year and set things in motion. www.iamgonnatell.com we'll use that slogan. my logo will be up this week so watch for it and we can decide t shirts and things. We'll need to do some fundraising for the tshirts but I KNOW in my heart if we all pull together, we can make this really big and get the word out with a BANG that we are sending a message, a message to our kids a message to support each other and yes, a message to those sick bastards who better think twice.
