all my friends and even my work suggest i should have moved on by now as my sexual assult and rape happened on 30th sept 2011 bt i cant seem to move forward i keep living in the past iv been seeing my councellor for the past 10 weeks bt iv only just been able to tell her abt it etc through writing. is this normal as also my sleeping is still not so good i sleep mbe 4 or 5 hours per nite if im lucky and its pretty much always disturbed sleep iv been giving amytreptiyline tablets 75mg bt i stopped taking them a while ago as they didnt help ... my friends r fed up listening too me tlk abt it i need some advice

You can't move on unless the you have healed. Don't listen to friends and co-workers. They don't have clue. You know how you are feeling and you don't simply move on from assault or rape. that is like saying i know my arm is broken so i will simply use the other one. it simply does not work this way. are you in counseling?

yea i know yea im in councelling have been for 10 weeks bt i cant speak that is my problem the last time i spoke abt it was in my police interview bk in oct 2011 its so depressing bt i need to return to work where it happened or i loose my job :(

I am so sorry but it sounds like you are doing the right thing for you. If you can't talk about it yet then that is a pretty good sign that you are needing more time before you can move on. Do what is right for you and stay strong.

thanks x i think i shall return to work on phased return bt yea i cannot tlk abt it which isnt good i guess bt as everyone says iv had plenty time to move on etc :S :/ its not so easy thoooo!

Those that have not been there do not usually understand where you are coming from, so therefore they should keep their opinions to themselves. I had family members say the same thing. Also, if people that have been there don't always heal the same way. You are so early in this journey and just like justanothersurvivor says, you can't move on unless you have healed. I have not even spoken to counselors about the details of what had happened to me. No one knows this except for me...........that is personal and private and if you choose too, it is your's to keep that way. You have an advantage by being in counseling so quickly, many people have been abused and repressed that memory and take years for it to come out and process. Stay strong and take good care

yea i know that is so true bt i like the support of my friends etc i went to the police bk at the start with the help of two of my best friends they sat with me thro the whole thing so know the full story they were also there when the police came bk and told me the case had been dropped and that they thought i was lieing that was the hardest thing iv ever had to hear:(
as for my family my parents are aware of wat happened bt arent aware of how its hurting me etc
and iv only got 2 councelling sessions left :S so i dunno if it will even help tbh
