Im not sure about sex laws but here in oz from what ive read only about 17% of reported abuse results in convictions and I dont think the penalties are very harsh. Ive never heard of death penalty for abuse. That would be great.
Im conflicted coz I hate abuse and abusers but I think these ppl have some mental illness and deficiencies to be capable of doing that to a child. It would be great if society could take sexual abuse more seriously and work at the source of the problem to decrease abuse. Educating both adults and children about abuse. However abusers definately need to be taken out of society so they cant hurt anyone. Its BS how they may only receive a little sentence and then they are out again to abuse if they want to. They give their victims a life sentence of pain and suffering and they only get a year or few years at most in return. Death and castration would be 2 guaranteed methods to prevent this :-) These methods would certainly deter alot of would-be abusers.

I'm mentally ill and would never abuse(sexually or utherwise) a child or adult, caus womand can do that also, I know that men are more commen in sexuall abuse. Please don't people don't lump all MI people like this. I know the correct term for these people are soicapathes(prob spelled it wrong). I don't know if it'ss a MI or something diffrent. Something bad nust of happend to therse people to make them behave this way but some people are like this for resomes that don't include abuse in their past but there that way by choice, I think. I'm not acusing you sonyas77 of lumping all MI ill people as sick child molesters or rapests but most people think we are and I hate that. That's another one of my sope box issues. I'm not saying there are no MI abusers but a majorty of os are wonderful people who have a desise of the mind a chenical imbalence that we meed to be on meds for the rest of our lives, Belive me if there was a pill that could cure it I'd be the first in line to take it. I totally agree there should be stiffer sentences than are already in place..there is no excuse good enough for me to excuse their behavior..it's their own selfishness as far as I'm concerned..I think the death penalty would be a great idea since what the courts are doing isn't working..a slap on the hand and counseling...what a joke...I say Charlie Daniels puts it best..tie em to a stump and let the alligators and rattlers do the rest...they know what they are doing but they continue...the only ones they feel truly sorry for are themselves...not what they've done but that they got caught...Our courts anger me as you can tell because there is not enough done to protect the innocent...still in this day and age...its so sad...may they all burn in hell for all the things we forgot not to tell...:)

I agree that our judicial system does not know how to punish for sex related crimes and too many people get away with what they do.

I also want to say that we believe that men are the majority of the criminals when it comes to sex related crimes, we can not make that statement. So many boys are molested and sexually abused and it is harder for them to come forward also females that are abused by other females rarely come forward because of the stigma's attached.

We as a society are more likely to believe in the male vs female abuse and that is why that is more commonly brought to our attention.

I believe that the laws have to change!!! We can only educate people about what happens and who is capable these crimes. If I had tried to come forward as a child no one would have believed me, most of my abusers were looked at by society as upstanding caring citizens.

We have to tell people that they need to watch the daycare providers and the coaches and the den leaders. It can be anyone and though we dont' want to be paranoid we have to be aware that it can be anyone, male or female!!

I am sorry you feel people point the finger at the mentally ill. People are more likely to blame someone that they feel is weaker than them. Most people don't want to accept is could be there mother, father or friend.

OMG I feel exactly the same way. Before I was sexually abused I use to always tell my boyfriend that the best punishment for a rapist is to cut his penis off so that way he can never force him-self upon anyone else. But then I realized that females do it too and what would be a suitable punishment (just as equal as cutting the guys penis off) for them? Maybe circumsizing (I don't think I spelled it right) them or somehow sewing their vagina up if that's even possible. But I do think it's a long shot since sexual assault laws still have a long way to come. Only within the past 10 years have they even begun taking the crime as serious as they do today.

WRONG! Cutting something off or sewing something up is not going to stop sexual abuse - IT IS NOT ABOUT SEX, it about abuse and control! You don't think that what find some other way to get off or to penetrate or to hurt!! And death is not an answer either - no civilized society should condone the state taking a life. And while I don't consider myself a "Christian" the bible says thou shalt not kill - it does not qualify that fundamental rule.
