no need to apologise as your post is very relevant.
I think its great that you are seeking help for yourself and Im guessing help with understanding and supporting your spouse who has been abused.
I agree that you could start your own group.
If its understanding you want dont be afraid to post in this group and ask questions.
Thanks for saying how couragious and strong we are. Abuse is a terrible thing and it is a battle to get on with life and to be happy.
Anyway, I hope you and your spouse get the support you need, if not here then elsewhere.
If you havent already considered it, you may like to try counselling with a sexual abuse specialist. Not all therapists know a great deal about abuse so thats why I recommend a specialist.
Also, I think the book 'The courage to heal' may be good not just for survivors but their loved ones too.
take care
I would like to say that the book Allies in Healing (I think written by the same author as The Courage to Heal) completely changed my understanding of everything going on and what my wife's going through, and I would even go so far as to say it might have saved our marriage. If you think your spouse or other loved one is having trouble dealing with what you're going through, or doesn't understand it, I'd recommend the book. (Wow, they should pay me for that pitch!)
And if anyone wants or needs a spouses perspective on anything, please just ask. I'm certainly no pro, but we've been working through this for over 5 years now and might have some experience that could be shared.
My name is Dave and I started the Supporters of victims of sexual abuse group as I could not get any help myself.
There is a link on my profile page.
It is difficult to be supportive 24/7, 365 days a year, year after year with no support for us.
Feel free to join.
The group has partners of victims and also some victims who are willing to help.
