I don't want to say anything bad on your family because I don't know them or the situation beyond what you've written here, but what I can say is that this is such awful, victim-blaming, shaming behavior that it's actually pretty damn appalling to me. I wish I could help you to give them a new perspective, or at least help them to change their thinking about this. Why is it your fault, and not the rapist's fault? Why is it your fault he's in jail rather than his fault for committing a horrible crime? If they convicted him, you must have had some pretty damning evidence, because so so many rapists walk free.

I understand that it's hard to accept that someone you loved and trusted could do something like that, but the fact is that it happens all the time. I also wish other people could walk in our shoes for just a day sometimes.

It's not your fault that your sister's kids won't know their grandpa; it's his fault. It's not your fault that she won't have him to walk her down the aisle; it's his fault. It's not your fault he's in jail; it's his fault. If he hadn't raped someone, he wouldn't be there.

I'm sorry you're going through this, and as hard as I know it is, please try not to feel guilty. You got justice. You deserved the peace you felt.

Im sorry your family is not supportive. We support you. Could it be that your sister is triggering you by what shes saying? Maybe thats why you are seeing him everywhere? Maybe you should take a break from her? Just my thoughts. No matter what anyone says you did the right things and nothing is your fault. Its all the perps.

I just can't wrap my head around why families blame the victim.We cut my in-laws out of our lives for my daughter's sake,she was abused by a cousin.She often appologizes for the family estrangement and I tell her over and over,she did not do this,HE did!I also tell her that just because we are born to people does not make them family,we can choose our family.The best thing you can do for your own well being is to move on from these toxic people,build a family from good supportive friends.This was not your fault!

You did the right thing for sure! Avoid people who will say otherwise, they are wrong and make you doubt yourself. Sad that some blame the victim. Take magnesium and ginseng every day, they will re-balance your calm. They do calm the mind body and spirit and get rid of sticky negative thoughts. Then you won't be reliving it all over and over or see him everywhere in everyone. It helps a lot, for many. Please try it. Also, find ways you can help others, it will also benefit you. there are many thinking the same thing and in middle of it, you can be there for them.
