If you sister/brother doesn't know about the abuse I would let them know about it to protect their daughter. I however do not know if you can charge him, but its worth a shot. Just be strong and let your niece know what to tell a trusted adult about. (abuse or anything like that)

Yes, that would be more than enough. Even possessing the tapes would be a significant criminal offence that could lead to imprisonment, let alone making them or perpetrating the abuse.

The time limits for prosecution vary with jurisdiction, but the clock for that doesn't usually start until you're legally an adult. Even if the time limit on the actual offence has elapsed for the actual abuse (and I very much doubt that is has) he could still be prosecuted for the possession (and maybe production / distribution) of child pornography.

You could consider contacting the Police directly or speaking with a rape and sexual abuse centre or women's aid type organisation. They should have knowledge of the law in your particular location.

There are two issues here. One is that you have a young niece. It is neverrrr to late to protect children. Stopping the abuse at any point is a victory for the children.

The other issue is that he abused you. I am grateful that you have no statue of limitations. The tape is your proof. If you are emotionally in a place to go after him, go for it!!! Just getting this sicko on paper for sex offenders, would be a good day. I would put that sex offender bar code on his forehead. Jail time would be icing on the cake.

YOU did nothing wrong. Nothing. You didn't not bring the abuse upon yourself. You did not "ruin his life." You should not have "kept your mouth shut."

The abuser was the person of power. The abuser made the decision to hurt you. The abuser ruined his own d*mn life. NOT YOU.

Talk to the police, and see if they can get a search warrent to search his home. Let them know he taped it and they will look for it. Then get a good lawer.
