Not to go into too many details but my moms boyfriend(he was married to another woman so maybe more like mistress, I don't know what you call him) had trouble keeping his hands among other body parts to himself when I was younger. I repressed all this for many years and when it resurfaced it was hard but I thought I dealt with it. I gone a while without actively thinking of it. But the more therapy I get(in relation to me being bipolar) the More I realize that my childhood had a catastrophic impact to who I am now. I don't talk about this occurrences in therapy because going into detail about it and talking about it all the time won't make me feel better. But I can self identify some of the impacts it had on me. I have sex with strangers or people who treat me badly because atleast then it's my choice, which is unhealthy. Self esteem is always an issue. Basically though I'm wondering, how do I not let this control my life? I need to stop with these unhealthy relationships with people who treat me like crap. But I don't know how to stop.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

strong link between abuse during childhood on
the one hand and difficulty establishing and
maintaining emotionally satisfying relationships
during adulthood on the other. The evidence
from recent studies suggests that people
who suffer physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
during childhood are more likely to experience
distress in their relationships as adults than
are people who do not suffer such abuse as
children. I know you said you don't want to go to therapy, but I suggest you see a cognitive behavioral therapist or an emotional focused therapist to help you.
