EMDR Treatment

My psychologist has started doing EMDR treatment because I've been having recent memories of my abuse that took place when I was 5. Not sure what this is or how it can help because I'm new to this kind of treatment. Has anyone else had this? What was the outcome? Did it help you?

in the last year i started seeing a councelor that has done the emdr with me. at first i was very skeptical and really didnt believe it would work. but after giving it shot i realized it was working and went with it. it somehow changes the way you think about the memory that is taunting you. it has worked for me and i actually have less memories creeping up and bugging me. i dont know much about emdr but it helped me. good luck with your treatment.

Mty son had 5 sessions of EMDR, and he said it helped for quite a while--almost a yr, then his original memory feelings started to return, but not as long or as severe as they were prior to the EMDR. Now he's doing weekly counseling, and a bit of guided imagery. Here's a link to learn more about EMDR:

I had that treatment years ago..it didnt help me. But ive been through several treatments including ECT and nothing worked. One thing that helped me was comfronting my abuser. Once when I was 16, then again last year. I guess it gave me a sort of closure..plus I had questions that needed answers since it happened when I was 5 and my memories of it were choppy. I hope this therapy helps you
