Omega 3 and food intolerances

I will apologize now if this topic has been exhausted however I can't help but going back to it. How many of you have done the dietary changes and increase the Omega 3? We have done the necessary changes like remove gluten, food dyes, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and started to supplement Omega 3 since our son will not eat, or be anywhere around fish or the smell of fish. To date we have not seen any improvements.
I want to hear from others in this group, regarding their experiences with
dietary changes and Omega 3. I also wanted to share with you that I received some rather upsetting news from Hello life company who offers homeopathis supplements for symptoms like ADHD, OCD, and behavioral problems. We had been trying Synaptol for over a year at this point and we never saw any true benefits but we stuck to it, slowly increasing the dosage. We reached our max dosage and I was considering trying their supplement for stress, anxiety, etc etc, but before doing so I contacted the company once again. This time I had an official dx to give them, and when I told him what my son has I was politely told this: We are sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis, and after much research we are sorry to inform you that none of our homeopathic supplements will benefit your son." --My heart sank!!!! To date no ADHD meds have been successful, no dietary changes have been significant(no matter what he will continue to be GF due to the genetic factor). Yet I continue to read how food intolerance can impact conditions such as SPD/dyspraxia, Autism, etc etc etc. So your feed back on this would be greatly appreciated.

We did the omega 3s and after nine months noticed slight differences. I know it helped him because afterward and further into all of our treatments, he broke out in hives from food allergens and intolerances. It must have been bringing down the inflammations in his body. We suspect that my son has a very high histamine level. Once we removed the allergen foods, his hyperactivity decreased greatly and it was obvious when he reintroduced some of those foods inadvertently. The behavior came out like a wild silly monkey. He also has the high anxiety levels brought on by histamines and this was proven in neurofeedback as well. Most of his highest anxiety levels per neurofeedback is in his frontal lobe; thus, effecting executive function. Our goal is to bring down the histamine levels by removing the allergen foods as much as possible, healing the gut, bringing down the anxiety FIRST then possibly reintroducing a stimulant or alternative ADHD med after bringing down the histamines and anxiety, then working on the executive function. We currently have received a neurotransmitter test kit that will tell us exactly what the levels of all four neurotransmitters are for him specifically and as well as his histamine levels. After having all of that knowledge, we will finally know exactly what natural supplement or what medication will be best for him. No more guess work, no more trial and errors. I will keep you posted through a pm as those neurotransmitter results come in within the next week to ten days. Hope this helps! Happy New Year my friend. Don't give up! We've both been at this a very long time and I do believe we're getting closer to answers. Your friend, Faithfully

Hey Faithfully, I just sent you a PM and then came here to find that you posted--Thank You for all your help, it's been quite a journey for us hasn't it. We have been doing Omega 3 supplement now for over a year and still no change. We know he has allergies but according to the allergy testing it was only to environmental grasses. No foods showed positive and prior to that we already learned through blood that he is highly intolerant to gluten. That we stopped. I could clearly see that food dyes and HF corn syrup was a factor as well, so we eliminated that. I really need to get the hair follicle testing done. I think that will tell us alot as well. In a private PM tell me who is doing the neurofeed back. I want to see if there is anyone around here that performs it. I struck on the music therapy, the professor that was listed for the area no longer offers it. To date I still can't find an OT outside of the school, The school OT does not do therapy for SPD. We try as much as we can at home, but not knowing if we are doing the exercises correctly or not we have a tendency to slack on them. Also PM me on how he demonstrates his anxiety. Our son over the smallest things will just go into a rage, most of the time it's due to frustration. We try to talk calmly to him and that seems to set him off worse, so most of the time we just ignore him and let him calm down then we will discuss his behavior and how wrong it is. The language barrier with him and the short term memory dysfunction really hampers our success in getting him to stop, because with in minutes he will have forgotten the conversation we had and start in all over again. I know he's at the age that Dyspraxia is at high for behavioral issues, but something has got to work. I have spokein to so many dyspraxics that have told me that either there parents didn't do any kind of dietary changes or supplementations, that they just out grew it as they got older, or if the parents did try dietary/supplemental changes there was no improvements, Just time and patience. I guess I am just trying to find the miracle cure. It's just so sad for us to see him struggle so, he is such a good loving boy with such a kind heart, but when he gets into that rage, he's a totally different boy and that scares us. PM me when you get a chance--thank you as always!!!!

I'm new here, so I apologize if its not up to par but I wanted to add that our family has changed our sons diet (and our daughter't too - might as well) where we took out food with the reds, blues, etc, and started giving supplements such as the Omega3 (we buy all kids supplements on NatureSunshine online). As far as seeing a change? It is a slight change, the hyperactivity is less. Our son just got diagnosed with ADHD like two weeks ago but his SID has not been diagnosed yet (working on that and its turning out to be harder than I expected....such is life.... But I keep advocating for our son because I figure if I can get him the help he needs NOW at first grade than he is better off in the long run instead of waiting til he's in middle school and saying, "Uh Oh, maybe he needs therapy.." Yeah I dont want to be that parent. Even with the slight changes and less hyperactivity I am sticking to the Omega3 and less gluten, no HF corn syrup or reds, blues, yellows in foods. Good Luck!

Our 3yr-10mo son has SPD (sensory seeking) and was diagnosed Thursday with apraxia of speech. We started to potty train him six months ago using the "M&M treat" - totally forgetting his behavior the last time he was given these things for a couple of days. His behavior went thru the roof hyperactive. He normally eats only organic apples, bananas, avocado, tomato, imported pasta with homemade marinara (san marzano tomatoes, olive oil, basil, garlic, sea salt), whole grain bread with ground flax, 2% organic milk, purified water, organic chocolate as a treat, and the occasional organic scrambled egg. He won't touch vitamins, candy, meat, or cookies. I was giving him two bottles of toddler formula per day to keep him up on his vitamins. But I have noticed that eliminating anything with artificial colors, flavors and preservatives has kept him on a really steady keel. For having SPD/sensory-seeking and the frustrations of a child who can't get his wants/needs/thoughts across to people effectively, he's a smiling, happy kid who loves to hug his family and therapists and says hi to everyone. Also, he's well of the growth charts at 52 lbs and 44" tall at 40 months of age. I think the avocado, olive oil and ground flax seed play a huge role in his emotional health.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
