I would recommend giving it a little time before making a final judgement, but most of my patients have their OT after school. Not sure how many hours your son is in school but if it is a full day, maybe consider doing the OT on a shorter day of school.

My son has his therapies at school and on the weekend.
The ones at school seem to help because they are in his environment and help him get along "better" with the other children.
His one on the weekend is like playtime in the sensory gym, he has come so far in that one.

It will be rough in the beginning until he gets used to it, just give it some time and see what happens, My daughter has OT and for the 1st month we were not sure it was going to work but she calmed it became comfortable for her, but I also have this in my home, and her OT goes to school with her, shes 2and a half, and goes to early on..

First day of O.T. and some mroe after that will be overwhelming...If you can spread it out during happy times at home as well, that would be good...Make sure they are tkaing it slow...Also, it can help to have the O.T. have cold hands.

When I moved and my son got new therapists the transition was a problem. About the fourth visit it got alot better. Good luck!

The time I took Oli to OT it was overwhelming and he passed out in the car on the pay home.
I didn't go back because I couldn't get the time between full time school day and no appts available, it was a hassel. His school now has an OT gym and I need to get information to get a person to service him. He has evals, but what do the OT people do? Have you ever sat in the therapy with them? The one I took oli to did not want me to participate and she was very rushed to get me $75 of value for the visit. The one at school was more determined to assess the non-need, as to recognize the need. What other than Sensory Diet can they do for sensory integration? All I've seen them do is paperwork and sit in ARD denying the exsistance of the disorder.

Rushing isn't good... overworking is bada too. In school is good and spread out through the day. They should be doing brushing, ball therapy, lotion therapy, swinging therapy, etc. but in moderation. Also, you should be in there so you can incorporate the therapies throughout the day, short times per time, but not too much. Joint compressions is also what they are supposed to do. Visit the school and see what they are starting. I see O.T. appt., espeically since not in school anymore, but incorporate it in the home from O.T. appts. and then go once in a while or once a week or two weeks... It depends, he's in school, so thats good there and just a little at home should be sufficient. You don't want to over O.T. it.

Oli, yes, they definately take extra time trying to 'rule things out' rather then work with what is there. Ryan has already repeated kinder once, now they are ruling out a possible learning disability.... but they are waiting to do that in MARCH! MARCH :( so much of his time is being wasted, I could cry.

At this point, all I know of is a sensory diet, where he does certain movements/excersizes each day before he is required to 'keep his body still' for any length of time... i also dont let him eat foods with food coloring and artificail ingredients. he is very sensitive to these and it DOES change his behaviors to another extreme.
