Senior Health & Aging Support Group
Aging is an important part of all human societies reflecting the biological changes that occur, but also reflecting cultural and societal conventions. There is often considerable social pressure in many societies to sustain denial of the aging process. Join this community to discuss general issues with aging and senior health.

Hi All
Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I am on a vacation and already dreading the return to
work. I'm finding that it gets harder to work and harder to look for work as I get older.
Being an older woman can be a challenge. I admire women who feel comfortable in their own skin with
little make up and fuss over their hair.
I will admit it's hard aging physically and I am accumulating a lot of health problems along the way.
My husband just retired and learned (after I put in for my vacation) that he needed to have surgery on his
eyes. I was secretly like, "Darn!", not because I was upset about the surgery, but because I would have taken
a day or two off to get him settled and taken another week later. He is kind of moping around and so am I.
I haven't done half the things that I had hoped to do.
Anyway, had a few beautiful days and have a few more left.
How is everyone else doing.

It was a huge hit with about 200 guests. We got so many compliments on our hard work and the great time they were having. There are so many nice pictures on Facebook with everyone saying they reconnected with old friends. But let me tell you, I am glad it is behind us. We all put a lot into it. We are having a lunch meeting next week, which I am looking forward to. Yesterday was...

We both have health problems. Husband had stroke four years ago.
He is pretty normal now but has to drive with a spinner wheel and can't
Drive far. He has on use of one hand. I am type two diabetic. With a mild
case of diabetic retinopathy. Had laser surgery on my eye. Went well.
Good luck with your husband's surgery.
I'm new to this group & have been trying to connect with older women like myself to find out if there are those out there like me or am I the only one who feels this way. I'm closing in on 64, married with a blended family since our kids were 4, 6 & 8. It's been 38 years of turmoil trying to be the referee between our kids, husbands family & my family. If I had one bit of advice for anyone contemplating a "Brady Bunch" type of marriage, I'd say run for the hills. There's nothing normal about it. This is the reason I feel if I hadn't made that bad decision so many years ago, my life would have been more "normal". It seems I've been reacting to one thing or another all my life & trying to make everyone else happy, always trying to do the right thing even if it meant I'd get the blame for my stepchildren's feelings.
Now, my son is across the country & husbands kids are 3 hrs away. We hardly ever hear from them or our grandchildren. It makes us sad because we ran the roads for years to see them & to ensure they spent time with our families. We were extremely generous at Xmas & other holidays & their birthdays. Now it seems husbands kids only spend time with their mother & her husband, don't even call or email or text or nothing. It's my own fault my son doesn't bother with me. Last time he visited I made a royal fool of myself in front of his wife & my 25 yr old granddaughter. That's all I have to say about that. Anyway, I've decided to just do the best I can do & accept whatever comes my way.
Husbands & my health is pretty good. No diabetes or heart problems, blood pressure & blood work are pretty good.
I guess when one turns 60 all sorts of things start popping into our heads because after 60 we never know what may jump up to bite us. I certainly don't want my older years to be filled with doctors appts or hospital stays.
I'd love to try the RV thing but my husband doesn't want to go for it. We live in an extremely rural, mountainous locale with plenty of lakes & streams, wildlife and scenic vistas. Guess I'll just have to be content vacationing in my own backyard.
With what's going on in the country today, that sounds like the sensible thing to do!
Hope all goes well with you husbands surgery. Let us know how he's doing.
Most of my concerns hover around my partner, who is a few years younger, but anorexic and afraid to travel. I seem to spend most of my time recharging and updating software on all our battery-powered, modern-day necessities. (I exaggerate a little, LOL)
I am enjoying the summer so far. If you have traveled a lot, or would like to do more, I would like to recommend the DS group "Perpetual Motion Devotion". The road is scenic and not over-run with tourists. Happy trails!
It does seem that life gets "different" after 60. My husband's surgery went well. My vacation is ending and I haven't really done much.
Seems like everyone who replied has a lot going on. Would love
to keep this group going. I will check in regularly.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
It seems because of health issues I don't have a lot
of energy to post. I'm am a member of another group on DS but don't post on that site either although I read things posted by others. I can't believe that I am 76 years old now one reason being that I still feel young inside. God has blessed me in so many ways through the years. It would be
good to see more activity on this site because
of our unique place in life right now. Old age
isn't easy is it? Everyone take care and have
a good day.
