All I was judging was the person's own given comments on this board, which can be seen and rightly judged by anyone here, because the comments are in full view.
So here you (and others) put me on the defensive about myself when the subject of this thread is not about Booky.
A seniors group - and especially a "SINGLES" seniors group - that wants to act like they are not pubescent - is my idea of dull and boring.
Otherwise we can go to the grocery store or to Walmart and that is meeting hundreds of people except there is no real human personal contact except paying the cashier.
Going to a Church is cool, but one really needs to be of that same religion or else it is not cool.
When I go to card games then the people do not like talking as then they can not concentrate and talking is distracting, well I am wanting distraction because the card game is frivolous and it is senseless to take it so seriously, and when they do that it is just like seeing a stranger in the grocery store as the meeting is shallow and meaningless.
I go to Bingo games and people get 10 or 30 cards and trying hard to win, so talking interrupts their concentration too, and at the end of Bingo it takes less than five (5) minutes for the entire crowd to pick up their stuff and walk out the door, as there is no real interaction.
There is more and better interaction at a bar room full of drinkers in that there they do come to interact with each other.
So it is not just a matter of "meeting people" as there needs to be a little bit more than that.
Your description of the card games and the bingo sounds terrible. Clearly those are not the venue for you (or for me). Yet, there are other things to do. Meetups are so varied and are filled with people who really want to connect and develop friendships. Meetup.com is a nationwide network available in all but the smallest, rural communities.
I agree that there are plenty of boring, uninteresting people in this world . . . but there are plenty of exciting, curious, and intellegent people out there too. We are simply saying that we have found some. Keep looking. But keep an open mind.
What I find offensive is that you are lumping all of us into that catagory of simple-minded dull people, when you are so mistaken!!! I wonder how many other interesting people you have skipped over who could have brought joy into your life.
It is extremely discouraging to look for value and not find it. Maybe instead of looking for it, you need to create it. Attitude is a major driving force in the search for happiness. You are sadly mistaken about the people here who are trying to help you. If you look for failure you will find it. If you look for success you just might trip over it. Good luck.
I tried to bring this discussion back to the subject and not about me, and here again you badger me as if you were my Mommy - which you are not.
The MeetUp.com is a cool place even though it is kind of off-the-topic, but you give that cool place over top of personal cracks about me.
I see you as an internet-bully with no way to turn your bullying off.
The subject here is not about Booky.
Had to move into a senior bldg. when I was only 61 due to health. I couldn't take the noise level and foul language of the younger people. BUT YES, I did find it sterile and boring and unexciting.
I am now 67 and miss my younger days, which were spent in Phila., PA. People of all ages were more friendly and laid-back there. Here in VA I find older people to be too conservative in their religious and political affiliations.
Would love to be sexually active again--with the right person, of course.
The institutions in the US including the educational system have dehumanized us to the point where man woman relationships have become more competitive than pleasurable.
Older women especially seem to be less comforting and more annoying than ever.
One other comment ......... I have met quite a few retired educators and without exception none had anything worthwhile to teach me about life.
We are complex sexual, conceptualizing animals who have been allowed ourselves to be beaten down by an indifferent higher power and each other. There is no other animal like us!!
I tried the church and likewise they were very old and snooty, and just bible bashing or expecting me to babysit old ladies and clean the floors when I should be at work earning a living. It was ok for them, they would go and help out a bit while their husbands paid the bills, and then go home to a nice family life. They expected me to neglect paid work to go there and then go back to an empty house. No thanks.
I would love to hear from a male or female and maybe get to know them on here - I am 100% straight but welcome any new genuine friends either to meet up with face to face or chat to through emails or phone.
And please do not try to give me advice. I am not here for advice.
I have been to all of the local social groups and clubs and all of them are mostly people who are at least TWENTY years older then me and very fuddy duddy. I also tried to start off a group for women and a group for younger people and the only people who were interested were the very old ones again. I was not willing to set up another group for them when they already have loads and they have far more time than me to do it.
Some of you talk about church. My churches - all six of them - are full of VERY OLD people. Others talk about hobbies that are simply not available within traveling distance.
Sometimes I chat on here to someone who I have something in common with even if it is only being a similar age rather than go to a club where I would end up sitting next to a lady of 95 who keeps telling me I must shout in her ear or she cannot hear me at all,
and goes on and on about how her friend died and her bunion hurts and her grandson sent her a birthday card ten years ago.
I for one have thoroughly exhausted every avenue so advice is of no use to me.
Just because a person is lonely and longs to have a meaningful friendship or relationship does not mean they are slow thinking or unable to work out what their options are or what to do about them.
